Travelers to Burmecia often describe its constant downpour as depressing. Thus, the city doesn't exactly see many in the way of tourists (much to the delight of some of the various Nezumi dwelling there). To the inhabitants however, it is often calming. The never-ending patter of rain on the stones of the roads, the rooftops, and even onto one's clothing, fur, and skin. Rarely does a Burmecian curse the rain.
One of those few times, would be for the poor saps stuck with guarding the city's gates. One particular sap sighs as he leans against the newly rebuilt gates of the beautiful city. Red eyes blinks as the male nezumi attempts to stay awake, the cool feeling of rain washing over his blue coat, water-proof armor, and winter-white fur not helping matters. Spear clutched in a clawed paw, he briefly looks over to his partner. A look similar to the blue-clad nezumi's own sits there, boredom and a desire to fall asleep. The only thing that prevents the two from doing so is likely the fact that they are the city's first line of defense. The white-furred Dragon Knight turns to look out into the vast lands beyond the gates, wondering what horrors or wonders might grace his beloved city doorstep this day...

...that is, until a rather unorthodox, alto voice calls out, "G'day, my fellow soldiers! How's the graveyard shift?"
The voice belonged to a rather peculiar lass, one whom one would wonder how in the hell she was a Dragon Knight totally. Only 4'11", her white hair was short and in a huge mess over her head. Her sapphire eyes held a very gentle glow to them, as if reflecting her golden heart. Over a suit of mail was a sky blue tunic, over that was a leather coat with red inserts. The shirt was adorned with an embroidered shield design, a coat of arms. Its top-left and bottom-right are blue, its other sections white.
Long chicken legs, animal-like were covered by blue jeans and a white belt. Around the girl's ankles were blue cloth anklets. This young lady also carried a halberd, with a red hankerchief wrapped around the base of the weapon's head. It was a Dragon Squire, only 17 years old and thus too young to be a knight. She had, however, good training in the Academy.
"Top o' the morn, lads! Look alive", she said. In her off-hand was a small kettle. "I've coffee in this thing", she said. "All I gotta do is heat it up, and you'll get some perk. Think of it as a squire's assisting knight routine".

Graveyard shift or not, the two nezumi at the gates quickly ready their spears as a voice calls out. The jumpy guards blink almost in unison before realizing that the owner of said voice is one of their own. The white furred Dragon Knight shakes his head, while his partner gives a sigh.
The white furred Dragon Knight approaches the Squire, offering a salute followed by a bow. A stickler for formalities, this one!
"Good...'morn my Lady. Forgive my earlier reaction, it has been a long shift..." he apologizes. At the mention of coffee, the other nezumi waves a claw.
"No thanks...my shift's up anyway. Faruja, don't keep yourself out here too long. You know how that Kary is, doesn't show up for guard duty half the time...the Captain will make him, so don't suffer for it" the considerably older Nezumi states before saluting the younger white-furred one and heads off.
After returning his senior's salute, the white-furred one turns to the small Dragon Squire. "Coffee...please, that would be much appreciated. I do not believe we have met..." he replies. "Dragon Knight Faruja Senra, my Lady. You look well, I am glad to see another of our number home..."

The girl jumped a bit, defenseless with her halberd in one hand and coffee in the next. But seeing as things cleared, she calmed as Faruja spoke. "Ah.. alrighty. The name's Jessabelle Ambrosia. Jess for short". Ducking, Jess set the spear down to draw a match from her pocket, alongside a small dish and a bottle of lighter fluid.
"Excuse my pack-ratty-ness, Sir Faruja. Juz didn't wanna bring a whole firepit". Standing over the dish, she poured in the lighter fluid and set her match ablaze, then the kerosene. The blaze burning bright, the kettle was held over the incendiary. "I'm glad to be home", she said in a half-lie. She really missed her home, Treno. Especially since her boyfriend had taken leave recently to the town. "And glad to be alive. Do me a favor and don't get wasted anytime soon, savvy?"

((OOC: Sorry about the delay, work/school's been hectic))
Faruja nodded in understanding as he turned his eyes to the lands outside of the gates, not wanting to forget his duties despite the arrival of the young squire.
"That is understandable. It is best to travel light" he says, briefly looking back to Jess. His tail gently sways behind him in slight boredom from the long guard-shift. His ears however were perked slightly at the company he's found himself in.
"I have no intention of dieing any time soon...what use are we to Burmecia if we perish before our time?"

"But of course", said Jess. She kept her hand steady over the flame, holding the kettle. "...hmm. So, if we're gonna be here a while... eh, I dunno. Tell me about yerself, Faruja. Whatcha into outside the service?"
(OOC: It's alright, don't worry about it. I could've guessed it was school-related.)

Faruja watched as Jess held the kettle above the flame, the Dragon Knight smiling briefly at the younger Squire.
"Well...I suppose I am a bit of a musician. I play the violin mostly" he responded, ears twitching as though he's embarrassed to talk about himself.

Jess' ears perked out from underneath her mess of white hair. "You are?" she asked in earnest. "Wow. That's cool; I love music". She looked up from the kettle to meet Faruja's eyes.
"...I'm serious", she said, knowing some girls liked to exaggerate their likes to get with guys. "If I were not a Dragoon, I'd be a Bard." That's all she said, for now... she would've told she was a bit of a poet, but ever since a certain incident in her youth, she was scared to show her talents.

The Dragon Knight, nodded and chuckled a bit. "Perhaps...you and I can play at one of the Inn's, some time. If I may ask...what do you play?" he inquired, tail gently waving this way and that.
He shifted his view from Jess every now and then, keeping a lookout for any who might try to enter the city. Thankfully, it seemed to be slow going for travelers and the like.

Jess shrugged. "I'm an ace with a guitar, a lute, a harp... anything with strings. I'm also a fine alto singer, too." She sensed his interest from his tail wagging, and returned with a smile. I'd still be a while before the coffee finally got hot enough.
"Oh, yeah", she asked. "Uh... how hot do you want this? I personally can't drink things scalding hot, like coffee or even cocoa."

The Dragon Knight smiles to Jess. "Well, you're quite talented! I'm inept with anything other than a violin..." he stated. He closed his eyes briefly, sighing as raindrops land on him. Really, it was a beautiful day.
"Oh, medium-warm is fine. I've always had the sensitive tongue myself."
"Where have you traveled from, if I may ask?"

"Treno", replied Jess. "It's quite an interesting city. Eternal night, just like this place has eternal rain". She sighed. "My arm is starting to cramp up. Can you hold this for me, Faruja? I'll stand guard with my halberd".

Faruja nodded, and took the kettle from Jess. "Treno...that constant darkness sounds depressing. Though...I am sure Burmecia is much the same for certain travelers" he commented as he warmed the coffee over.
"I wish I could get a post where I could travel...I love Burmecia, but being stuck here is a bit...well, boring at times."

Jess nodded. "Yeah. I'd imagine being stuck anywhere, no matter where... that would be boring. To be honest, I think I'd like to visit Dali one of these days." She walked over to roughly where Faruja stood, her halberd gripped in both hands. "That place... just seems so carefree and peaceful, at least to me it does. And, uh... thanks for holding the coffee, Faruja".

Faruja smiled a bit, and nodded to her. "Dali...that does sound nice. Perhaps...should you ever need a traveling companion...." the Knight offered, ears going pink.
The coffee done, he soon poured himself a cup before offering the same to Jess.

"Heh, I'd be glad to invite you, Faruja." She looked around the horizon, then eventually gripped her weapon in her right hand, taking a cup of coffee herself with her left.

Faruja gave a smile to Jessabelle. "Thank you, Lady Jessabelle...." he replied, hiding any more embarrassment behind his coffee cup.
Soon enough, he was back to attention, mug in one hand and spear in the other. It doesn't take long for a brown-furred nezumi to come up behind Faruja. The fair-furred one salutes to the newcomer.
"Sir Faruja...your shift's up...go have some fun, eh?"
Faruja gave a bow. "Thank you, Sir Kary...please, be safe..." he stated, before looking to Jessabelle.
"Lady Jesseabelle...have you eaten? I...had planned on going to this wonderful restaurant...I would love to have someone join me..."
Was he asking her out on a date? Or just being nice? The Dragoon himself could hardly answer that question.

Jess sipped her coffee. "Uh, nope. Not yet, anyway. But as soon as I'm able, I'd love to. It'd be sick." She smiled. "See you whenever, Faruja. I still have to check in with my folks."
With that, she reclaimed her goods, putting her now-empty cup and dish into her coat pocket, and walking off, her halberd on her shoulder and her kettle in her left hand.
