Please note that the results of this poll won't necessarily determine the fate of RoER2; but it will have a good deal of influence on it.
Now, here's the deal. The general unspoken consensus seems to be that RoER2, as it is, is dead. It's gotten bogged down by its own weight. However, I still have much of the story in my head, and I still want to tell it. I just can't forget it. The question is, do any of you still wish to participate in that story? I truly won't be offended if you don't, quite a bit of time has passed and people's interests, like their lives, tend to move on.
EDIT: Another note: all of the "continue" options assume a new, more streamlined battle system that doesn't require so much work, and a good deal more freedom in choosing what to do on the part of the characters. After all, that's part of the fun in having others play, too.
Option 1 Nobody else wants to participate. In this case, Vix sneaks off with Valedec to face the enemy alone. I've already begun writing it, though I haven't yet gotten very far.
Option 2 We choose some point in the future of the existing storyline to resume with existing or new characters.
Option 3 We create an entirely new storyline and everything, though some characters could be re-used and slightly altered to fit the new storyline.
Option 4 It's all over and nobody is even interested in reading what I write in conclusion to the storyline.
Option 5 Anything not on the list above.
Regardless of what you vote for, please explain why you voted the way you did. I think we're all friends here, and nobody is going to hold your opinion against you, whatever it may be.

I definitely want to see this continue, and I'm most certainly going to be a part of it. The creation and playing of good ol' Dan has really helped me grow as a writer and roleplayer, two talents I didn't even know I had before staring. So yeah, it's either option two or three for me. Most likely two, since it's obvious you've put a lot of effort in telling the current story, and I'd love to see it continue.

I'm also keen to see how this ends and what Lancer has planned for the plot. I'd be interesting in being a part of it and I was really sad to see ROER2 die.

I'd perfer we continue. Let's just... y'know, get some new mods to help out. I'd love to volunteer, considering I've got 2 hours daily online. Unsure if I'll be able to use 100% of my time for RoER2, but I'd give it a shot, Lance.

LZ, we'd talked in the fairly distant past--briefly, I think--about converting the RP into a freeform. If an easier-to-handle battle system can't be hit upon (I think some databasing and a more automated system for actually conducting battles would help), it might be the way to go. I think there are still quite a few people who're interested in the RoER2 storyline and their characters--I can say that I am, for one--but may've gotten bogged down by the battle system.
If I had the time (as Meep and Rob can attest, I'm having some difficulty keeping up with MM alone), I would volunteer to help out a bit; I'm not going to be able to really promise anything, though.
(I spent about half an hour one day several months ago at dinking around in the CircleMUD codebase. It'd be interesting to create a private MUD for RoER2 just to handle all the combat/exploration stuff, but I certainly don't have the time to do it. I think a hybrid RP/MUD could theoretically be created, one that would confine its battles and dungeon crawls to environments that would be handled via the MUD, with the forum RP handling the rest. The issue there, of course, is aligning everyone's time online, since we have a salad of time zones here in RoER. It would be a fun experiment, though, if very time-consuming on the front end.)

No, you can't let it end. I've tried so hard to make this work. Ok so Rufus was a Putz and Terrys a hopeless drunk but it's all taking form. Or at least I am. I still can't seem to get on. I tried that password you sent me Lance and it doesn't work, but you spent so long on this it would seem a shame to end it, and after all the help you and the others gave me. I'm not letting it end. Not til I can show you that you weren't wasting your time.
EDIT: Ok, after frying over 50 passwords, I decided to reset it. So now I'm back in business. I still gotta lot of work to do. Especially for Rufus. Nope, I haven't given up on him, and don't you othersgive up on this RP either. Your characters are a part of you.

I'd love to see it continue myself, as it's the main reason I joined this site! Hopefully you all can resurrect it in some manner ^^

I must admit that I'm surprised at the unanimity of the vote so far...and pleased, because it's essentially what I'd hoped for. I'll give it another day or so, then I'll talk with Dec and we'll figure out the next step. If we do resume the current storyline at some point in its near future, it'll probably have to be modified a bit. Y'know, to make it more consistent with itself and easier to write for.
Also, as Wilson suggested, it's entirely possible we'll go free-form and ditch the battle system altogether. There would still be battles, but their outcomes would be determined more by narrative than by stats.
EDIT: No takers? *bump* I'll bump it again tomorrow evening too if there's no more responses, then talk to Dec day after tomorrow to try and figure stuff out.

Either way I'll be content... I've been doing narrative wars on NS for ages, I'm sure it'll all be cool. ^_^

Well, I'd be happy to ditch the stats and go for free-form battles. It's worked in the MM, so I don't see why it wouldn't work on ROER2.

The stats and all that were slightly confusing for me, so having free-form is a great idea ^^

You know what they say about the best-laid plans of mice and men...I've been busier than usual the past couple of days, and Dec and I's schedules just haven't coincided yet. But they will, and we'll figure out what the next poll will be.

I'd be fine with things going free-form. It might keep things flowing smoother. Though, I'd wanna hear about what changes to the combat system Lancer's got planned before I make any concrete decision.

I keep feeling like I've forgotten some important things, but I went ahead and posted the summary in the staff forum of RoER2 for perusal and editing.
