The feline, hearing of these 'enchanted saplings', grew suddenly intrigued. His ears evidently perked up, as he stood on his toes to listen. To help concentrate, he closed his eyes, appearing to be in a slight trance as he began to delve into his mind about these saplings. ((Attempting Knowledge Arcana to know what they do))
As he was listening, he noticed that nobody else was quite assisting with the bard in their discussion. Thinking for a moment, the wizard opened his eyes and looked at Garrus, confused at his formality with the man.
I understand that being formal is nice and all, but... I don't think this makes quite sense. I'm all for the respect of superiors, but I have the slight feeling that this man isn't as superior as he seems...
((Attempting Sense Motive aswell on the Lord, to attempt to see how influential he is.))

Garrus and Wolfgang both feel that the lord is being truthful about the apples. He also seems to be honest about wanting the party's help. Wolfgang guesses that the saplings are probably just as magical as the apple, and probably highly sought after for their healing fruit.
"Eh? I have no idea how you keeping any junk the goblins have will fill my coffers, but you're welcome to the spoils just the same. As for their numbers, who knows? They come in the dead of night, and are gone by morning. The guards, damn them, were off playing a game of 'Watch Me', and didn't hear a thing except the rustling of wind in the trees. Sixteen saplings have been taken over the last two years, exactly eight each year. I would be extremely grateful if you could return them! Alas, while I hope you find the Hucrele twins and their friends intact, I doubt they could have been gone this long without some word" he folds his hands on his desk "I know you're going to ask for payment, so I'll offer you this; I'll give you one healing apple for each sapling you return"

The feline seemed slightly confused at the fact that the saplings had restorative properties. He had no idea why the goblins would steal them back, or even the nature of them. However, something seemed oddly amiss; how would they know where to find the goblins?
Taking a deep breath, to release his mind, he stepped forward, next to Garrus. To speak formally, he took his hood off and knelt down before the lord, his left hand over his left knee, and his face seemed almost nonchalant.
Nothing seems to dissuade my idea of this man...
He then stood back up, and said in common, "If I may ask, something does not seem quite right. Will this be attrition, as in we are waiting for them to strike, or will this be a search and destroy. The reason I ask now, however, is because of my concern of possibly going into an entire goblin fortress."
Ending question, he looked back at the party, judging their strengths. Not appearing to be immensely more powerful than the mage, he looked back at the lord. "I do say, if we are to be going into a goblin stronghold, I think there is a sense of necessity to have knowledge of where we are going. Besides, once we retrieve the saplings, how will we get them here without them dying?"
The feline the apologized for his slight outburst, and then took a step back, leaving Garrus to be closest to the lord. The feline made sure not to look at the Lord completely, but kept the lord in the peripheral vision.
Out of anybody here, I don't want to die from misinformation... Attacking a Goblin Stronghold seems like an idiotic idea, unless we can do guerrilla tactics.

Garrus could find nothing that would show that he was lying. He seemed honest enough.
he seems to have missed the point but at least he doesn't want the goblins stuff, more gold for us, I hope.
Garrus listened to what the guards were doing the night of the thefts.
Good to see his guards are alert as ever.
Garrus thought to himself. The goal was simple, 8 saplings and maybe 8 trees judging by the time that has passed. But something seemed off about the thefts. Goblins weren't noted for their subtility so how come they were so quiet.
At the mention of the Hucrele twins, Garrus turned the name over in his mind to see if he knew that name from somewhere (Bardic Knowledge)
At the mention of the reward Garrus' eyes widened. These apples were worth their own weight in gold.
"Your Lordship is too kind. We will get on this right away. If your Lordship knows of where the Goblin lair is we will leave right away."
Just then the feline came forward and posed a question. Garrus chewed it over in his head, seemed like a good idea.
"I'm sorry my Lord but would you mind telling us a bit more about the region, in case there are extra dangers. You also mentioned earlier that these goblins gave you the apples. Could you tell us what you know about the goblins as well, if your Lordship doesn't mind."

(Spells are the same as last time) (EDIT: 10-15-08 -- Please deduct 5 Gold from my account and add 4 to Garrus' for the money-giving. I'll just pretend the other 1 GP was for the drinks at the bar and breakfast)
Amber had flexed her muscles in self-comfort after she finished her climb the night before. Her might still served her well. Surprisingly, she slept in the tree quite well. Heck, she could even sleep on a cobblestone road nude and not feel awful from it in the morning.
After walking back into the tavern the next morn, she sat down away from the others again; she indeed forgot the intensity of her shame, yet preferred isolation. The oatmeal was a pure disgust. It seemed she also wasted quite a few wild raspberries trying to add to its flavor. At the least, the toast was somewhat able to get choked down. Afterwards, she took a quick moment to actually get dressed out back... into her hide armor, that is. She had kept her goods hidden out in the woods, and there she also put on her gear.
The hide armor was stiff and brownish-tan, some parts stitched together. It was all a one-piece suit of armor, the 'pants' and tasset held up by overalls and the cuirass had gone over it. Over her legs went her pants made of cloth akin to jeans, bought from a civilized store once, a flame design etched on the pant legs. Over her chest went her pinkish tanktop, and a strap which held her dirk's sheath. Her belt was next -- it held a fastenable look to hold her club by its handle, and her spell combonent pouch was also attached, too. Finally, on went her backpack, and a waterskin's neck tucked into her belt.
On location of the quest, Amber looked around. She marvelled at how tall the tower was next to the building. My my, she thought, that building... it's like a thick tree of stone. Amazing; I'd love to see what it's like inside.
Upon seeing Lord Leng, she merely nodded to acknoledge his greeting. She noticed his age. Sheesh, glad I'm not gonna age like him, she thought. The hound was either oblivious to Garrus' prevention of her mucking things up, or was pretending that his intents weren't to stop her.
She smiled as she heard the seeds were magical, and that she could obtain a magic apple on success. The marvels the Material Plane holds! ...yet, I do wonder if this lord shares his fruit... and why the goblins are so snooty over their fruit. Sheesh, they give him an apple, and do they not expect him to plant the seeds? It's more stupid than expecting him to not eat eggs if they sold him a rooster and hen!
At the end of this all, she nodded again to realize she got all that. And to show she knew Common, she added, "Indeed ye can count on us, fair lord Leng. We'll do our best, I assure you." She paused, hearing Garrus' question. Eh, a goblin is a goblin, she thought. And a goblin is good Dire Wolf food. Heheh. She grinned to herself at her joke, sweeping a paw through her blonde locks.

(sorry for delay in posting, school and health issues) (gold deducted for a night's stay)
After a restless night, Nin woke, and prepaired himself for the meeting. He slung him shurikan belt across his chest. After making sure that each projectile was set to be ealy drawn, he covered it with his tan tunic. He grabed his Glaive as he left the in.
Well...this place is poorly guarded. An ambitious thief could make a pretty silver here...tempting, but not now. I have legitimat gold to make for my village. Irs good to know that I was, at least, right right about humans dual nature of wanting things dead and being to cowardly to do it themselves.
Nin entered with the rest of the party, staying inconspicuisly in the back. He put on a facad of smiles and nods...until payment was mentioned.
WHAT! He expects to pay us in fruit! Magic or not, it won't likely last long enough to sell. How to word this...I can't lose this job...
"Sir" Nin said, his hair slightly frazzled with irritation, "an apple, enchanted or otherwise, will not keep me sheltered at an inn nor fed for more then one meal. Shurely, someone of your wealth can provide...monetary payment for a sell-spear like I."

Garrus tensed up, turning to look over his shoulder at the figure in the back, a shocked look on his face.
How does he have the audacityto ask somehting like that?
Garrus quickly turned back to face Sir Leng.
These guys are gonna lose this job before it's eve been offered to us.
"I'm dreadfully sorry for that sudden outburst my Lord. Some of my comrades are a little more material then others."
As Garrus said material, he ever so slightly lookedover his back and placed emphasis on the word while casting a quick look at the toward the ninja.

As the feline heard a voice behind him begin to speak of payment issues, his hand clenched a small fist for a moment. Liberating his frustration by looking back at the moment and exhaling, he shook his head.
I don't think this person quite understands that it's better to be employed and getting something than unemployed. So we'll be getting some enchanted apples; who's to say we cannot sell them? Plus, from what we could loot from these goblins...
Wolfgang looked back at the lord, and then looked at Garrus, whom was slightly infront of him. To assist Garrus, the feline decided to make a short hand-signal to the rest of the group to follow what the mage does. After making the quick gesture, he knelt down in respect, keeping his eyesight to the floor infront of him. Deciding to concentrate now more on what the lord was saying, the feline closed his eyes as his ears seemed to perk again.
If anything, this facade of respect should just get us by without loosing the job...

Freyr had rested himself rather well with his meditation. He woke up feel rather contented, and made his way downstairs and managed to stomach the rather poor quality breakfast.
He hadn't been taken aback by the Lord's tower, or it's contents. He'd been around and seen greater riches and luxury in a home, especially for a Lord. Still, work was work, as long as he got good payment.
After hearing about the saplings, and the promise of some enchanted apples, his interest was piqued. As a cleric, healing magic and items was one of his main interests. That gave him all the more reason for wanting the job, but the feline's concerns worried him.
Then Nin popped in and questioned the payment, which made him put a hand to his head in frustration. You idiot! Those fruit could be sold for a mint, or we could plant them and get our own stock of enchanted saplings to use and sell!
Thankfully the feline stepped in and maintained his formality in order to settle the situation before they got out of hand. They didn't want to lose this job before they had a chance to work! Freyr decided to add his own comment.
"Well, I think your offer of payment is a very generous one. Those enchanted fruits sound very valuable to me. You can count me in on this my Lord!" Freyr said happily with a little bow.
(This thread is going a lot faster than I thought. BSD, do you have to make all those long posts so fast!?)

Well well well...I seem to be surrounded my self-rightious adventurers
Lose the job...HA. He'll hire us. If he wants those plants back, he needs us.
Nin stood up tall, trying to look like a career soldure. He cleared his throught and clerified his point.
"I mean no disrespect. I spoke not out of avarice, but out of need to make a living. Not all of us can afford another night's stay at the inn."
the inn here is darn expensive too. I wonder if the inkeep jacked up the price on us.

Garrus noticed that Wolfgang tried to ease the situation, for which Garrus was grateful. And then the stranger seemed to twig what was going on and apologised, albeit in a slightly arrogant manner. Garrus swallowed and smiled at Sir Leng, hoping that he would over look the little transgression. He quickly ran the ninja like persons apology through his head as well as some of the speech before. Garrus wanted to see if this person held some greed or somesuch. (Sense motive)

Garrus senses that the stranger spoke out of necessity, not greed. Perhaps he really needs the gold? Also, he realizes that he's heard the name Hucrele recently, but can't remember where
The lord leaned back into his chair. "I see no reason for discussion. Either you take my suggestion, or you leave it. If you take it, you'll be paid with the fruit. If you don't, I'll find some other adventurers. Now, I suggest that you ask around town; some of the locals might be able to tell you more than I could about the matter. I have business to attend to; from now on, if you have questions, speak with Ruric. Good luck" the lord pointedly returned to perusing whatever it was that he was reading. Taking the hint, the group left the room, only to find that Ruric Hucrele, the man that had approached them the night before, was waiting for them. "I overheard your conversation, and I think I can offer you a bit in addition to what the lord is offering. My son, Talgen and my daughter, Sharwyn were two of the adventurers that volunteered to investigate the goblin problem. We haven't heard from them in some time; I fear the worst. If you find that they're . . . unable to return . . ." here he fought back a tear " - please, at least bring back their signet rings. You can keep their adventuring gear, if you want. I doubt they'd need it any longer. I'll give you 125 gold for each of their rings, or double that if you can bring them back alive and well"

Garrus left the lords presence, feeling like an idiot. It was then that he bumped into the smartly dressed man from before. This had to be Ruric. He listened to his tale and saw the man was visually upset.
"Have no fear. We'll find your children, and hopefully we can bring them back to you. That will be reward enough for me. But we'll see what we can do."
As they left Garrus looked over at the cloaked ninja.
Why do you look to profit fromothers misfortune? One day it'll be you.
"Well, looks like your gonna get your gold."
Garrus cast a quick look around town.
"I say we check the Inn first. They must've spent the night there at least. Then we could head to the smiths as they might've need to get new weapons."
Garrus spoke. He then turned to the cowled ninja type figure. This was bothering him and he wanted to get to the bottom of it. He approached the figure.
"Pray friend, do you have a moment to talk?" (edited to make sense, my falt for confusion)

Nin walked out irritated.
That overinflated ogolop! He wants us to risk our necks for a damn apple...hmm. Perhaps this is workable. One of those seedlings would be a valuable asset to my village. Besides, he's only paying us for those that we bring back. Perhaps I just won't bring one back...but how will I get it to my village without it dying...perhaps an apple or two would be best. I could salvage the seeds. Then they could be grown at the village. This may yet bring me honor.
Nin's mood perked up when he heard the new offer. This is a job he could go for. Search and rescue. He'd been trained for that.
"No worries, I'll get it done."
when aproach by Garen, his mood droped again.
"Ya, I have time to talk. What can I help you with," my human's boot licking excuse for a "kinsman?"

Garrus sighed. He quickly loked over at the party to make sure no-one was watching or listening.
"I just wanted to apologize. I judged you wrong. I see now that you need the gold for necessity rather then greed. I guess we started on the wrong foot, so what say you that we start over?"
Garrus said kepping his voice down while holding his hand out in friendship.
"Names Garrus Velandas, I don't think I've had the pleasure of your name."

Amber thought to herself concerning Nin's reply. Ach, it seems he is also dependent on what gold can buy him. Nine hells, if I can live for as long as I did in the wild, so can anyone else. But, whatever. At least we still have this job.
After leaving Leng, the man who had lost his adventurer children appeared. Before he ran off, Amber asked, "Pray tell, how talented were-- erm, are your kin? Surely they might still live... but nevertheless, we shall indeed go for them."
This just left Amber waiting without any ideas on what to do. She thought it best to ask for a member of her soon-to-be party for help. "Uh... anyone hear able to catch people's attention? Like..." She pointed her finger to Freyr. "...you! You are an elf! Surely people at the inn would listen to you better then any of us furry-folk."

Feeling slightly relieved that they could finally leave the manor, the feline's face and attitude of the place seemed to light until they saw the man whom had first approached them. He mentioned the missing adventurers, which caused the feline's face to suddenly be disrupted from a smile.
He sighed to himself quietly, and put his hood up completely over his head. As the man finished speaking, and Garrus' response, the feline looked at the rest of the party.
His...son and daughter, stripped from him? As if someone had physically ripped them from his arms...
The feline felt a sudden chill, as if there was a ghost behind him. He visibly sighed, and he had to speak. "If...if you guys need to find me, I'll be...getting a drink or something. I'll be in the inn; I kind of need some alone time..." His voice seemed to come out like a crackling fire. To anybody around him, it was evident that he was disturbed by his now slumped standing and his eyes glowing beneath the hood looking narrow.
A being whom...Whose life seemed to matter. Suddenly, taken. But was it of his choice? Was it his choice to let them embark on the path that they did? He felt a slight resentment towards Ruric, however, he was too deeply affected to care.
The feline, slowly slumping to the inn, noticed Garrus moved to the side to talk to the 'supremely outspoken one'. Then, the feline noticed the female enticing people. Closing his eyes, he smeeled depply, as if trying to get a feel for the area, or perhaps to clense his mind. He took off his hood, and then walked back over to the group, which would have consisted of the Female, the elf, and now Wolfgang as the rest of the group had gone off.
He spoke aloud, mostly to himself on this, "There is no sense is believing death is the worst thing possible. Even if they were to die, sometimes..." The feline's voice seemed to become slightly more shallow, and choked up a bit. "Sometimes death is release compared to the evils of this world. Even so, in death...there is no pain, nor misery. Just eternal sleep..."
He looked at the female and the Elf, and bowed a little. "My apologies, I didn't mean to ramble on like that. I don't believe I..." He looked around, to see anything else. "Got your names? My name is Wolfgang Tamos, by the way. Since we'll be working together, I think it would be best to understand how each of us are, so in times of chaos, we don't end up hurting one another. Wouldn't you agree?" The feline's head tilted, subconsciously on his part, but nevertheless tilted when he asked the question.

Freyr ambly strolled out with the majority of the party. The fact they were brushed off rather rudely thanks to Nin didn't bother him that much, the idea of obtaining enchanted apples had brightened his mood. Plus, it looked like they might even get some gold to add to the generous payment, even though it wasn't the best way to make a bit of gold. Still, it was a nice bonus.
The elf was a little surprised to see Amber turn and point at him out of the blue. Still, he quickly gathered his wits and made his response.
"Wow, your observational skills are remarkable. Thanks for making it absolutely clear that I'm an elf, I didn't want to confuse anyone." Freyr replied drolly. "I have a name too you know. It's Freyr, and I'll go and ask around the inn and see what I can find. Although you guys should see what you can find out too, I don't want to be the one doing all the work."

"Yes, you did, and I do need the money. Besides that, this is how my job works. I go risk my neck. I get payment. I send the money to my v...organization. Fund aquizition is one of my duties. Another one is protecting my kinsmen..." he said, pointing a gauntleted finger at Garrus "...that means you, too. So don't put yourself in too much danger for this human." A bit of contempt rings in his voice. "Don't say these things to the others. As for my name...you can call me what you want. I'm usualy just called Nin."
Nin turned, having not taken Garrus's hand.
"Come get me from the bar, when your ready to leave for the goblin layer. I need a hard drink." I hope I can afford it
Nin starts off to the bar, prepaired to get a much needed drink.

Feeling the poetic sense of the feline being ignored by those of the group whom had remained, then feline merely shook his head. It seems as if...As if the calls of the dead echoed through this society. The calls, hollow and untended to, seem to request assistance. Assistance not for...
In his thoughts, he decided to put his hood back up as he noticed the fellow that Garrus was addressing on their ((Singular Pronoun in this care)) way to the tavern. Ignoring that simple fact that Garrus is not accompanying the fellow, the mage continued speculating to himself.
"Yes, assistance... Assistance not for their resuscitation, but to atone for what was done. Not as their death, but as what should have happened ..."
The feline blinked, noticing himself encroaching towards Nin's position as Wolfgang needed to rest at the bar, coincidentally where Nin was going. Thinking that the human could possibly not comprehend what he was saying, he continued speaking to himself.
"A call of...justice, would it be? A crying out of dispair? Or would it be that...their purpose must live onward? To live on in death, through the will in which one had and proclaimed to others...
Is that...true immortality? The ability to have your goals continued when you die?"
The mage made a deep sigh, followed by a slight coughing fit, as he had taken in a deep breath of cold air. Upon entering the tavern, he sat at the bar, and did not order a drink just yet. His mind was currently filled with the theorems of immortality...
