The character I've been working on for RoER4 is a kickboxer by trade, so I decided to put a kickboxing style/rule-set together to go with her.
Having more or less finished it I thought I'd post it for you guys to see/comment on/use in fan-fiction/whatever.
Name: Bristi Is Lámhainní Dornála (though outside of Burmecia and in casual conversation it is usually referred to simply as 'Wraps' or 'Wrapping'.)
Rules:
Preceding the contest both fighters will enter the ring and do a short step dance together, both as a warm up and a show of sportsmanship/respect for their opponent.
Bouts are to consist of a single eight minute long round.
It will take place within whatever clear, level area is designated as a ring.
Protective equipment will consist of two-inch wide strips canvas to be wrapped around the fists/wrists and the shins of the combatants.
Legal techniques are any strike made using a closed fist, the forearm below the elbow-joint, strikes with the knee/shin/or foot. Trips and throws are legal as long as the combatant making the throw remains standing throughout the attack and doesn't grab below their opponent's waist.
It is illegal to gouge with, rake or make other use of claws in an attack, to make a direct attack on the tail or the groin, to leave the ring, use a foreign object as a weapon, biting, spiting or foul language.
Schools:
Muintir Cos: "Extended Leg" Mostly used by taller fighters, this style consists of blocks and trips using the legs almost exclusively.
Ado Croi Aonarach: "Two hearts as one" this style is close up,and personal. It unbalances the opponent by invading their personal space. It consists of quick blows, with greater emphasis on holds and throws to cause damage.
Bhfiáin Lamh "wild arms" - a dangerous style, those that study this technique learn almost no purely defensive technique, only incessant attacks. Rather than relying on blocks or deflections masters of this school attempt to take and maintain the initiative, and give their opponent as little room to manuver/defend/counter as possible.
Gan Bhogadh Bunchloch "immovable stone" - this style focuses mostly on defense end endurance. Usually used by larger and more muscular fighters, it was designed to exhaust and outlast evasive opponents. The movements are slow, hiding the true speed of the fighter, which appears once their opponent is fighting off fatigue. This school's training is unique in the effort put towards conditioning the fighter's body to accept and endure blows.
Ag Canadh Ean "hummingbird" - quick and precise movements, these fighters can dodge most attacks, moving in with jabs and quick trips between attacks. This style is favoured by smaller and more fragile fighters. The most visible characteristic of this school is its footwork, which has its fighters constantly shifting their weight from foot by bouncing lightly on their feet.
. . . So, any thoughts?
