Drifts of Fate Copied and continued from RoER1 (though due to post length limitations, it will be divided into two or three parts) LancerZeroIn the northern reaches of Gaia, there were places that were extremely remote, in spite of the seemingly all-pervasive airships that cluttered skies elsewhere. Small, rocky islands dotted the seascape, rising above the wind-whipped ocean swells at irregular intervals. These were simple places, when they were inhabited at all; there was nothing to attract tourists, and nothing more than the harsh climate and remote location to attract adventurers. Virtually as a rule, those that inhabited the islands of the far north were sustenance fishers and hunters, since the year-round cold made farming an exercise in futility. These were tight-knit communities comprised of hardy folk, who nonetheless were rightfully well-known for their hospitality to those who found themselves in dire need of help in Gaia's inhospitable northern reaches. In spite of their scarce resources and oft-meager supplies, there were more than a few northerners that would no sooner turn away a stranger in need than they would a member of their own families. Three weary, frost-bitten travelers had been fortunate beyond measure to've been found by such a person, though utter confusion would likely greet them when they beheld their surroundings. The first thing they would notice would be the howling wind outside, which sounded for all the world like a banshee crying out for its lost love. The second thing would be that, though dim, the room they were in was lit. And it was, indeed, a room . . . Where the hell am I? Why aren't I cold anymore? And . . . how . . . huh. If I didn't know better, I'd be sure I was forgetting something . . . He dismissed the thought for later consideration, deciding to take stock of himself and his surroundings first. Opening his eyes, the first thing that caught them were the rafters. Thick and sturdy, the heavy wooden beams looked like they might be a century old. I wonder what times that wood has seen? He let his eyes wander about the room, taking in the thick-paned windows through which only darkness was visible; and the trio of lanterns hanging from the rafters that provided the room's only illumination. Curiously, there was no fire in the fireplace; just smoldering cinders and smoking ashes, signs that though someone had tended the thing within the past few hours, they hadn't since. A large iron kettle hung over it, though it wasn't obvious if anything was in it or not. Mmm. Reminds me - I'm hungry. The rest of the room was very sparse; in fact, even though it appeared to be the central room of the home, it contained little more than four beds (one of which was empty), a table, a stove, and a washing basin. There was a doorway to some other area of the home, but it wasn't immediately obvious what that area might be. He was lying in a bed . . . and two of the other four beds were occupied, as well, though he couldn't see their faces or really even make out what they might look like beneath the thick covers. Where am I? Is this some kind of field hospital? And who are these other people? What an odd place . . . I hope they have food. And a map. Something tells me we ought to have a map.Taking brief stock of himself, he was relieved to discover that he seemed to be uninjured. None the worse for wear, after . . . huh. What did happen, anyway? Hmm. I'm sure I'll remember once I've got something in my stomach. Maybe one of those two know something about what happened?Sitting up and leaning over towards the bed next to him, he asked, "Uh . . . hrk!" After making another few nasty sounds while coughing to clear his throat, he was finally able to softly say, "Excuse me, but are you awake, and if so, would you happen to know where we are?" Meepy"Ugh...mmph...but mooooooooooooooom, I don't wanna go to school...just 5 more minutes. Wait..I haven't been in school for years..." She scratched her head in an effort to regain some of her senses, but for some reason she seems to be drawing on a comple space of blankness. Darkness is all she see's, nothing else, but for some reason she feels an unusual wamth on the tip of her nose. "Oh wait...I didn't open my eyes yet..." She opened them, and found something placed on her muzzle, something brown and black. The nezumi didnt had anymore time to evaluate anymore then that as she suddenly leapt high in the air with a yelp, and repeatedly slapped at her face in an effort to rid herself of the questionable object. "GET IT OFF! "GET IT OFF! "GET IT OFF!" Panting, she stopped and looked at her muzzle. It was gone. "Phew!" But anxiety grew as she wondered where it wen, then her anxiety changed to curiosity as she slowly realized the environment she was in. "Huh...where am I? What is this place...brrrrr, did someone forget to put in more logs in that fire place?" "Hard to say, who's aski-" The little nezumi turned towards the voice question and was met with a very appealing sight. She stared at him, shocked. Somehow she was filled with many emotions, mostly that 'Ooo la la' feeling. And yet, she had the itching feeling that she somehow knows the guy... She wanted to say "Oh yes, I am awake. May I ask who you are please." But instead: "....................huh?" With a shake of the head, she managed to control herself. "Oh sorry, I thought...um...I thought I saw some big scary monster behind you. (phew) So..where are we?" LancerZero"Ack! A monster?! Where?" He bolted upright, fists raised and ready to face the foe...just in time to feel a little silly. "Oh - eh-heh. You thought you saw one...I suppose I'm just a little jumpy," he sheepishly admitted. Now that he knew there was no threat, the nezumi was able to take a closer look at the girl in the bed next to his. For just an instant, he knew her, or thought he did - just long enough to grin broadly at the girl. In a flash, the might-have-been knowledge was gone, though he still felt fond remembrance; of what, he could only guess. She's cuuute...looks...hmm. She seems very familiar...so familiar...why do I- But just as suddenly as the feeling of deja vu had come, it was gone, and he was left with a minor headache and confusion, still staring at her. "Uhhhh...err...sorry." He scratched his head, and looked off to the side. "Your face, uh, tickled my brain...sorta like when a word is on the tip of your tongue, if that makes sense. As to where we are, I'd hoped you would know; unfortunately, I haven't got a clue. Looks like we're in somebody's house..." He craned his head, looking around again. "But I can't say that any of it feels familiar to me. What you said - does that mean you don't know where we are, either? Or, for that matter, how we got here? Wait - uh, if we were traveling together...don't know why I assumed that. Sorry if I offended you, my memory's a little fuzzy at the moment. Guess I must've got hit in the head, heh."

WilsonThe third bed, now, in its turn made a noise. Not quite a snore, the noise bespoke of a deep but perhaps troubled sleep. Following the noise there came the quiet sound of a low and low-sounding voice, muffled as if speaking into the pillow, "Quiet, damn you." But the words weren't intended for the other two--the man in the bed hadn't, even in sleep, heard them speaking, and indeed went on to vaguely mutter in dream-addled conversation, "S'ok. We're all--" The rest of the statement was lost, muffled to the point of complete inaudibility. With a deep exhalation, the man noisily rolled across the narrow width of his bed. The movement complete, he fell silent except for the occasional labored breath. MeepyYay, he's paying attention to me! Giggled silently the little nezumi. But also it bothered her immensly that he too was having that old deja vu feeling too. Perhaps they really have met each other before, havent they? If they have, she hoped it was something close... She was about to reply until a rude awakening interrupted her. Were it not for the fact that she wasn't frozen at the sight of the man, she would've whipped him good with a barrage of pillow slaps. She couldn't recall anything except that just looking at him was enough to give her the ole heeby jeebies of the Deja Vu episodes. What is going on here? At the last moment, she watched as the man feel from his bed and took humour at the scene. "Well that was funny, I wonder if he can do it again? Hee. In any case...I'm afraid I don't know where we are either...or how...or why...or anything else for that matter. I am so confused, I could just scream. I wonder who lives here anyhow..." LancerZero"Heh, yeah - looks like he's having some kind of dream. Hmm . . . sounds like you're every bit as confused as I am." The nezumi man ran a hand through his hair, and again took in his surroundings, as though another sweep of the eyes might reveal something the first had missed. "I know it doesn't look like one, but maybe we're in some kind of rural hospital, or clinic? That is, if it's a hospital this small, it'd pretty much have to be a small town or settlement. Or it could be someone's home. Either way, it seems too strange that neither of us can remember how we got here, or much of anything else. Perhaps we were attacked, or in some kind of . . . memory-erasing . . . accident?" He frowned, and shook his head. "Nah, that doesn't sound plausible. But at any rate, I'm sure if there's anyone else here, they'll hear us talking and come. While we wait for them, though, I'm . . ." his voice trailed off, and he scowled again, looking off to one side. "I am . . . that is, my name . . . is . . . uhhh . . . Mail? No, no, that's not right. Bale? No . . . I'm pretty sure it's not Fail, either, or Rail, but it's something like that. K-k . . . something with a . . ." All of a sudden, his face lit up with a grin. "Kael! Yes, that's it - my name is Kael. Might I have the pleasure of knowing yours, miss?" WilsonI'm in a _bed._ What am I doing in a bed?The man in the third bed certainly couldn't say that it was _completely_ out of place that he find himself in a bed. It struck him as he woke into the stupor that accompanies waking from a long sleep, and so was perhaps just due to grogginess. He wiped the sleep from his eyes as he sat up laboriously; his chest felt bruised badly and breathing was a chore. What occurred to him as strange, he decided, was indeed merely that he had awakened in a bed--though he couldn't say why, it came to him as a great surprise. Having not yet heard or comprehended the words that the other two had exchanged, the human about the room for a moment before noticing the two interlocutors at all--he gave a little noise of surprise before asking in a voice whose composure and even haught was belied by the coarseness of his dreaming reminiscence, "You will pardon me for interrupting, but would this be your house that I have found myself in? Perhaps you will tell me what I am doing here, since I--for some reason--do not know this myself." My tongue isn't swelled, and my mouth isn't too dry. Well at least I haven't been drinking. MeepyThe way the one who finally made himself known has brushed his hair, Kael; a name she has permenently etched in her mind, had put the young nezumi in a dream-like state. She sighed a long sigh and put her hands to the side of her face...then stopped herself several seconds later, not wanting anyone to notice her, HOPING no one has seen her. Trying to regather what's left of her courage, she momentarily turned towards the non-fur-wearing man. "Um, yea I don't know where we are either, looks like a home to me, but it sure as heck's not our home.I'm afraid we're in the same situation as you Mr....Ooman? That's what you guys are called right? Anyway's we dont know what we're doing here either, but enough of that, pleased to meet you both. As for me, my name is....is...." As the seconds and minutes passed, her fear began to overtake her senses, making her blink wide. "Um...I...forgot. What's going on here? " LancerZeroKael noticed the girl's sigh, but mistook it to mean that she, too, was frustrated at their present situation. Hmm . . . we seem to be something of a curious group. Two nezumi, and a human. Then again, who's to say we're a group at all? Perhaps we're nothing more than three unfortunate strangers, brought together by sheer circumstance. In reply to the newly awakened man, Kael answered, "I wish it was, honestly. For all I know, we may be in some kind of lodge, or even a dockhouse . . . and I'm afraid to say that I haven't any idea what you're doing here, or even what I'm doing here. Uhh . . ." His voice trailed off, and his attention turned back to the wide-eyed girl in the bed next to his. With a small smile, he assured her, "It's alright, miss. None of us knows what's going on - yet. But we'll find out soon enough, I'm sure." His smile belied his very real worry, though. Why was it so difficult for me to remember my own name? Could it be for the same reason this girl cannot remember hers? WilsonThe human's face darkened a bit as the young nezumi began to panic. "As our friend says, now is not the time for us to lose our composure, little one." At least one of the three remembers his name. Here are three people, none of whom knows themselves or each other, in a strange home that none of the three claim to know. For sure, I know that it's unfamiliar to me."Indeed, we will surely come to rely upon each other's strength because of our... indisposition. To put us on better terms, since we seem to be in this situation together--for, regardless of what you think, Kael, I won't believe we have all come here under these strange circumstances by chance--you will please call me--" The man shifted in his bed. When he thought to recall names, there came a dozen at once to his mind. Some were so foreign that he could hardly call them names at all. A scanty few had a comforting ring--some even had a sensory image associated with them. A woman's name with the scent of bread. Another with the scent of jasmine. A third with the sound of a singing voice. One name, however, he settled on as his own because not only because it was the first that had sprung to mind, but that it also sounded the least exotic. I will not be like a scared little girl who knows not her own name. I will take this name as my own until I find otherwise--and they will forgive me if I am mistaken, since it is stilly to carry on being called "the mysterious 'ooman' with no memory." No memory! God, but I won't admit to that just yet."Call me Will. I am William Lambert." The mind of the man called Will set at work at once. Now, a person doesn't leave his home without papers: a letter from a friend; a passport; a journal. Something. Since these people and this place are entirely unfamiliar to me, and I to them, I am likely not at home. Therefore, wherever my effects are, I will also find something that will give me a clue as to...Silent now, both in thought and in voice, the man rose from his bed. Thankful that whoever had brought him to this place had left his trousers and undershirt untouched, Will gave a look around the room, surveying it for anything that looked like the traveling gear of a man of some twenty-five years. To himself, he murmured, "A sword, a cane, a cloak, a pair of gloves, a pair of boots... Or should I shout for the homeowner, who would likely know what I had on my person?" Just loud enough to be heard by the nezumi now, he went on, "I think we have a right to know what's taken place. Our minds would be most put at ease were we to speak with the one who brought us here, or the person who admitted us to this--this whatever it is. House, it seems, from the furnishings. Or an inn. To the point, though, shall I call on the owner of this place? Or would you both perhaps prefer that he not know that we've recovered as yet? If he bears us some secret malice, we may lose our only chance to find out more of his nature if we are too rash right now. I will abide by your wishes." That last phrase tumbled from Will's lips almost without his realizing it.

"Yea me too, I'd like to know who's in charge here too." Said the little girl, feeling better that everyone somehow had to same afflictions as well, and Kael's own assuranced helped her out even more. She still felt the ever-endless emptyness in her soul, like she's forgotten everything that is special to her, not to mention who she his in general. Right now tho, she knows she can't show what she feels, not if she wants to make everyone else feel bad too.
"Well pleased to meet you Mr. Lambutt, I wish I could have a name to go by too...hmmm. Hey how bout you guys think of a good name I can take until I can remember mine? Oooo I want it to sound cute! Something that can also strike fear into the bad guys, maybe a name with a awesome meaning like "I may be little, but that doesn't mean I still can't kick your-"
-----------------------------------
"What on Gaia is going on here?" Said a female voice from outside the opening door. Standing over the doorway is a rather confused looking demi-cat, worry also written on her face as well. She stood a mediocre 5'4 with the lower-then-average weight to boot. A rather tattered physician's clothes covers her black fur, not to mention an assortment of the profession's tools poking from its pockets. She had a very noticeable white spot over her right eye, which also heaved a pair of thin yet well shined glasses as well. It took her a moment to look over the three to make sure if anything was wrong, but to be really sure, she wiggled her ears a bit and looked at the human who seemed to be the leader-type.
"Ah I see your all alright, thank the Goddess eh? Be lucky that you all survived with just less then scratches, but I digress, how are you all feeling?"
LancerZero
This William fellow seems professional - or educated, at least. And yet, I noticed a distinct pause when he tried to recall his own name . . . and it seems that he's missing a few other key memories, at least. Can it really be that all three of us are suffering from some form of memory loss? Kael was considering an answer to Mr. Lambert's question when the cat lady entered the room.
Not at all annoyed at the woman directing her attention to first to William instead of himself, Kael took the opportunity to think. Uh-oh - she's going to ask us who we are, likely, and the girl next to me has no answer to give. He looked over at her, and though she asked for a name with a tough meaning, something very different came first to his mind. She reminds me of a flower, a particular flower . . . it's a lovely flower, with the same color petals as this girl's hair and fur . . . now what was it called?
"Lily," he blurted to the girl without thinking. "I, uh . . . I mean, you look like a Lily. Err, not a literal flower, but - I get the impression . . . I just think it sounds fitting," he finished, somewhat flustered at his uncharacteristic inability to put words to his thoughts. Or is it uncharacteristic? How am I to know, if I can remember so little about myself? Oh well, I hope she likes the name, because I really do think it - oh, I nearly forgot!
With an awkward smile and apologetic half-shrug to the girl, Kael turned to the woman who'd entered the room. "My apologies; I seem to've forgotten a number of things, including my manners." Rising slowly from his bed, he bowed briefly to the woman before greeting her. "Quite well, thank you. Um . . . this might seem like an odd question, but . . . would you be able to tell us how we got here, and where 'here' is, if you please?"
EDIT: I, uh, added a little bit of stuff. =P
Wilson
The nezumi's 'Lambutt' comment washed over the human like water--she was just a young girl, so there was no need to get exercised. As Will was about to suggest the young girl a name--'Dagger,' a small but dangerous weapon--the medic made her entrance.
Listening to Kael and the doctor, William added after introducing himself curtly, "Madam, I am Will Lambert. If you knew that we had scratches, and were worried for our survival, perhaps you were the one who tended to us?" He paused a moment, unsure if what he was about to say was uncouth, and then said, "If you could point me in the direction of my things? I fear I may have lost an important document in--in whatever tangle we were in prior to our arrival here."
If she is a commoner, she will suspect me of thinking she has stolen my "document." I will then guard my words. If she is not, then she will not think any such thing and I may converse freely with an honorable person.
The man's face screwed up for a second, then returned to normal. Hm. What a strange thought. Why would a commoner be any less trustworthy than a person of class?
Meepy
The middle-aged cat was a bit silent to actually meet someone who apparently has some manners, which is to say she never really meets alot of people who does. Nevertheless, she smiled to her latest 'patients' and began to walk a little closer, hoping to get a better inspection of the three.
"Pleased to meet you Mr. William." The cat turned to the two Nezumi's. "As it is a pleasure to meet the both of you as well. My name is Dr. Jynx, don't let the name scare you, I'm more lucky then you think, heh. As for the what 'here' is, you are in the hidden town of Nyo. A very pleasant area with a very interesting background: The place was created for the home majority of us while the name itself was actually started by accident, or fate whichever you prefer. See it all started when ...oh where are my own manners? Your all are not here for a history lesson, sorry, old habits die hard."
"As for your documents sir, I pretty much placed everything you all had in another room. I cannot say however that everything is still intact or that you didnt lose anything, because I don't know if you lost anything nor did I bother to look. Rest assured that they are all put in a safe place. Now how are you all feeling by the way? Any signs or feelings of distress or pain? Are you all hungry perhaps?"
-------------------------
"Lilly? Hmmm...." The little nezumi tinkered and thought. "Oooo that DOES sound awfully cute. I LIKE IT!" The newly nicknamed Lilly looked up at Kael. Thank you Mr. Kael, I owe you one. Just call on me whenever you need any of my help!"
Then she looked over to where the cat named Dr. Jynx. To her, she seemed like a nice lady thankfully, but for some reason she felt a little hostility when she saw Dr. Jynx look at Kael for a few seconds. She better be married.
When asked about signs of weakness and hunger, she took upon that oppurtunity. "Oh oh! Yea, for some reason, we all can't remember alot of things that's been happening to us, I cant even remember my own name. Is there anything you can do about that? Like bonk on my head or something?"
LancerZero
Kael smiled and nodded his appreciation to Lily, quietly whispering, "I'm glad you like it." In spite of the fact that I only just barely remembered my OWN name, he didn't add. Still, it feels good to still be able to help even with something small.
"Jynx is your name, madame?" With a light chuckle, he continued, "Well, it seems you're quite lucky for us! Heh. We all seem to have memory problems to varying degrees, but are otherwise whole. I think. Or at least, I am.
"And if we are, as you say, lucky to've survived . . . Were you the one who found us, and if so, could you . . . well, would you please tell us all you know about how and why we're here? And, um . . . if you'd happen to have some warm food, I'd be very grateful indeed."
Wilson
Will paid close attention to the feline's response, and then decided that she was trustworthy regardless of her status. We all've been in this house long enough, sure, that any ill she meant us would've come to fruition before now. I... hope I'm not really a suspicious person like this. Maybe it's good that those two don't remember me if I was.
Rubbing his chin as he scrutinized the doctor--perhaps his careful eye was an old habit like his suspicious nature seemed to be--Will realized that he needed a shave. What felt like it had once been a neat goatee was now surrounded by the scraggly beginnings of a full beard. I couldn't have been asleep for _that_ long. Maybe we were away from civilization for a while. But wouldn't I carry a razor?
"The document, in truth, is not a matter of life and death. It can wait until we have eaten--if, that is, you are offering our supper." To underscore his hastily-corrected point, Will's stomach chose this opportune moment to growl. "I would not presume to ask for much, but I would prefer to talk while I dine, if I have that option."
"Ah," Will said, "and as for distress--I will say that my chest is a bit pained, and my breath comes somewhat difficult. I do not know what it means. I was not as fortunate as my--companions, who seem to have escaped all harm." The human punctuated the statment with a sudden sneeze that appeared to surprise even Will himself.
"Ah, my apologies for that."
Meepy
Jynx didn't mind the usual stares of her patients, but the way the one named William seemed to 'contemplate' her made her nervous, making her blush a bit. She thanked the gods for dark fur, and continue'd talking, hoping she can change the direction of the chat to something more interesting.
"In any case, yes, I guess you can say I was the one who found you. Of course I wan't the one who saved you, I mean look at me, I'm not exactly the town's shining hero gleaming with muscles ya know?" She laughed. "I'll tell you all the details later, why don't we-." Then she was interrupted by Will's sneeze, and her attention turned towards him. She looked over him, watching for any tell-tale signs of illness. "Goddess bless you. I see you've all have been out in the cold more then I thought..."
But Jynx herself grew concerned about the symptoms they described. Amnesia? Shortness of breath? Chest pain? Hmmm...I hope this isnt's anything serious. I'll have to make sure later on.
"What say we head on to the kitchen, shall we? I'll cook up a hot meal for you all, I certainly hope you don't mind sea food, heh. Fairly obvious, isnt it? But we DO live near the ocean ya know. Follow me to the kichen, that is if you can walk, which i certainly hope you can."
------------------------
Before Lily could whisper back a 'thank you back', her own stomach whispered to her, especially at the mention of getting a 'hot meal'. "Oooo awesome! Thank you very much Ms. Jynx! I sure wish we can repay ya for everything you have done, you've been so nice to us."
Getting off the bed and landing on her toes, she eye'd Will and Kael. "Come on guys, what are we waiting for? I can't wait to get something in my tummy, it feels like I haven't eaten in DAYS! Hee."

"Doctor - may I simply call you 'Jynx'? - seafood sounds great. And I'm going to join Lily in thanking you again, and offering my own services - whatever they may be - to try and pay you back in some way." Kael got cautiously to his feet, rising slowly but steadily in case he were to fall right back over. Fortunately, though he wobbled, he didn't fall, leaving him able to do a few quick stretches in an effort to loosen up a bit.
"Oooh . . . aaaah . . . ow, I must've slept in a bad position. Heh, too bad we don't all have your litheness, Lily. And what I am waiting for," he raised an eyebrow, and half of his mouth quirked up. "Was you, actually. I wanted to stretch, and didn't want to delay you. But since you were so kind as to wait, I'm finished stretching and as ready to eat as you are!"
To prove the point, he strode quickly after the doctor, wobbling only slightly as he went. The hallway he'd seen earlier in fact lead to the small kitchen. It was a simple place, a very functional room that wasn't made to look pretty.
A metal sink stood out from the wall on one side, with a rickety wooden counter next to it for setting washed dishes out to dry and for preparing food. There was an opening in the wall near the floor - quite possibly an icebox of some sort, using the natural cold of the snow outside to insulate and chill the food inside the icebox (which might literally be made of ice, if it was winter).
There were a weathered wooden cabinets and cupboards sitting on the floor, upon which a slightly newer-looking bookshelf sat packed with loosely-bound handwritten recipes. There was a single window in front of the sink, so that whoever did the dishes could stare outside if they wished; nothing but darkness was visible through it at the moment. In the middle of the room was the table. It appeared to be a few wide boards lashed together and nailed on top of a barrel, but it served the purpose. A nearly-matching set of five more conventional chairs sat around it.
Wilson
Smoothing out his undershirt and trousers--he assumed that he had a shirt and boots among his things in the other room--Will silently followed up the group after casting one more quick look around the bedroom; the idea of being without a shirt around strangers bothered him slightly. Seeing nothing that looked suitable, he became eager to investigate the rest of the doctor's home. So, forsaking propriety (not to mention warmth) for the sake of curiosity, with an equally rapid glance Will sized up the new room upon entry--and then paused and looked a bit longer at the makeshift furnishings.
Now, I'm sure that I've eaten at an improvised table such as that one. And yet-- Will smoothed out his plain, slightly yellowed undershirt again--it was made of what felt as if it had once been a very fine cotton, --I somehow don't think that I've done so recently.
With a perceptible brightening of his smile Will ran a hand over the roughly planed surface of the table; he said without irony, "Doctor Jynx, my compliments on your charmingly bucolic furnishings. Though I of course cannot say why, it stirs some vague memory from my afflicted head. Perhaps I have pulled up to a similar one before now."
Turning to Kael and Lily, Will remarked offhandedly, "We will certainly be able to overcome whatever has happened to us, and may even do so ourselves, without further inconveniencing Doctor Jynx." Pausing to cross his arms and then to place his chin upon his fist, he went on, "If I may, I suggest you to examine carefully even the most minor of things. If a table," here William tapped the boards purposefully, "is sufficient to provoke a vague recollection in me, who is to say what might not trigger still more powerful remembrances?"
But listen to me go on! I must be a professor. It'd also explain why I'm standing around lecturing rather than being useful.
Clearing his throat with a slight blush, Will abandoned the furnishings to direct a question to Jynx, "Doctor! May I be of service? Tend the fire, perhaps, or fry one of the fishes? It would be the least I could do."
Meepy
"You bet Mr. Will!" Lily replied to his statement, and then looked up to Kael. "Whatever is it, I'm sure we'll be able to get through it, right? I mean, amnesia can't last forever right? We'll be getting everything back in no time!"
Her stomach growled again, and she laughed nervously; trying to hide the noise it made. "Heh heh...So Ms. Jynx, is there any way i can help too?"
----------------------------
"Yes actually, if you don't mind." Replying to Kael's question. "'Jynx' would be quite fine thank you, it makes everyone feel easier to talk to by first name, particular myself." But her mind wondered elsewhere, worried about the three. On the contrary, amnesia can last for quite a long time I'm afraid, even years and decades before a person can fully recover his or her memories. It can even go so far as to be permanent...
Being the doctor she is, Jynx was tempted to dicuss that with them. Thankfully however, she managed to swallow it down, knowing full well that it's probably best that they don't know about that particular information. Hope and a good outlook can actually work more better then any herb, magic, or medicine out there, something she has learned through experience.
"I'm so glad to hear that you like seafood, I was worried that you didn't. But if you all could help me, that would be great. Will...would you all mind if I call you all by your first names as well? Are you well enough to grab a little firewood from the back? 4-6 logs should be enough. As for you little lady, is it okay if you go tidy up the beds for me? I may have some more patients coming in soon and I'll want them confortable."
"As for you Kael, can you set up the table for me? You'll find the dishes in the top cabinets. I myself am going to go upstairs for a minute, I just need to grab a few ingredients and ask someone else if he'd like to join us. Oh yes, I forgot to mention, I don't live here alone, I have a few more guests here. I hope you don't mind. I'll see you three in a bit, don't do anything I wouldn't do, kay?" She laughed humourously and left them.

The human emitted an imperceptible groan as Jynx assigned him his task. So much for getting a billet near the fire. Still, cold though he was, the idea of shirking or swapping duties couldn't have been further from Will's mind. Though he found the house to be a little more chilly than what he was used to--probably because someone had laid aside most of his putative clothes--it was nothing he would complain about (aloud).
Indeed, with nod and a cry of, "Right, Madame!" (first names were something he'd apparently have to get used to) he precipitated himself upon the front door--or what he had fortuitously guessed was the front door--and, throwing it open, leapt out of the house. Hurtling himself into the darkness that sprung up to meet him, Will immediately discovered two things: first was that the outside of the house was much, much colder than the inside, not only because of the cutting wind that bit his flesh like a lash but also because of the snow that he'd leapt into sock-footed; second was that the outside was also much, much darker than the inside, and thus little conducive to wandering around looking for the woodpile.
It's 100 feet to the back of the house. I've got an empty stomach, no lantern; it's dark and I'm in my skivvies. Let's hit it.
Letting the door slam shut behind him in the wind, Will wiped his eyes, teary from the wind, and staggered off around to the back of the house. The darkness prevented him from seeing much more of the rest of Nyo than a few scattered lights, but he was too focused (and cold) to notice much more than that anyhow; he met nothing more dangerous (or interesting) than a snow drift on his way to the rear of the house.
Following the wall with a hand, the man quickly circumnavigated the house and approached its rear, where he quickly was received en ambuscade by the woodpile. Following a brief but pitched (and slightly bloody) struggle, William gained the day, capturing five split logs--but not without taking his share of splinters. Booty in arms, Will made a quick advance in the direction he'd come from (finding the wall again helped). Shivering, wet, and a little beat up, made his way back around to the front of the house.
What in the world is a billet, anyhow?

After carefully considering his human companion's words for a moment, Kael was ready to reply . . . but by then, he was gone. Nonetheless, he spoke to Lily as he searched the cabinets for the dishes. "William makes a good point . . . we need to pay close attention to things that bring that feeling of deja vu, because they may be important.
"For instance, my name . . . is it really my name, I wonder? Maybe it's just the name of a friend, or family member, with whom I closely identify? And, uh, well . . . you." He'd just found the dishes, but he took his time gathering them together to avoid looking at Lily as he continued, hoping to hide his slight blush and wondering why he was blushing at all. If I'm so sure this girl and I should know each other, why is this an awkward subject for me? Surely there's no reason to feel such anxiety around one who must be a friend. Right? After all, she must be feeling off-balance as well. It must be mutual, I think.
"I mean, I felt a very strong sense of . . . I felt very much that I should know who you are. I did get a feeling of deja vu when William arose, but not nearly as strong as what I got when I saw you. Strange, isn't it? I - I guess we must be friends or something, that've traveled together for a time . . . and particularly you and I, maybe, do you think?" Or I hope so. I really do hope so. It would be very depressing to find that such a strong feeling was meaningless, and that we all three were strangers to each other and our presence together is merely coincidental. Unsure of how many places to set, Kael set the table for five - enough for the four of them and Jynx's guest, assuming she only had one. He fussed a little over making them all align just so, as he waited for Lily to reply and for the others to return.
Meepy
Lily herself actually came to that same revelation just now, when Kael (If like he says, if it IS his real name) has explained that to her. The awkward yet unusual closeness and wanting to be close to him, how more predictable his actions were to her, the many many unexpected feelings you wouldn't normally have for a stranger...it all adds up. Is it true? Were we really close? It sure does feel like it...Eeeeeeeeee let's hope so!
"Yea for some reason I feel the same way. It's like the two of us are really connected in some way. Kinda makes me want to know all the more about who we are and everything about us." A sly smile caight up to her. "Ya know, if you want, we could..." Her words stuck in her throat, anxiousness and shyness preventing them to be heard. A shadow crossed her face. Talk Lily, whats going on? Is it because your afraid what what he may say? Are you afraid that if you do get too close to him, you may find out something far more opposite when you finally get your memory back? Are you afraid that you have close feelings because of a totally diffrent reason? Oh heaven help me, please bring my memory back as soon as possible, please don't let it be what I fear.
"...Continue this conversation later after dinner? We gotta keep up our strength, and who knows? Maybe we'll remember everything once we also feed our brains too! I'll go in the back and clean up our bedding. Don't wanna sleep in a messy bed, I'll see you in a moment Kael."
And she skipped along over to the bedroom, showing a cheerfulness she did not felt. Only when she closed to door behind her did she breathed. "Sigh...good work stupid, you managed to make yourself look like a true dummy. Hopefully I can repait this if I somehow...ah yes..." Her smile returned as a new plan began to fall in place.
LancerZero
Though part of him was disappointed by Lily requesting to continue the conversation later, for the most part Kael was simply relieved to have his feelings apparently validated by the fact that she shared them. He smiled at her back as she skipped merrily back to the bedroom, taking great comfort in having already made a friend. It's so curious . . . she's so lively and vibrant, yet I seem to be midway between that and William's apparent solemnity . . . we would seem to have little in common, but we both feel a connection in spite of our apparent disparities. I really do want to find out more about this.
Thinking it rude to take a seat before anyone else, Kael instead pulled out the chairs to make it easier for the others to have a seat when they returned, and stood waiting next to the one he claimed for himself. While he waited, he idly whistled a little tune, which was softly melancholy even though he himself was not unhappy. And this - whence comes this little song, and why do I find comfort in its somber notes? As the scholarly-seeming William had suggested, he filed the fact away for future examination, and continued to whistle quietly as he waited for the others.

"It's perfect!" Said lily who couldn't help but say it out loud. "From now on, this will be the start of a beautiful beggining!" And then reality hit her and she looked around at the beds. "Sigh...but first things first..."

Shifting his burden, Will pawed at and eventually managed to get the front door unlatched. Using his back to open the door, he shoved it open and triumphantly returned to the cabin. Looking around, he saw that Jynx was not yet back and that Lily had apparently gone off to make the beds. He watched Kael pulling out the chairs for a second, then closed the door with his foot to announce his presence.
"So--Kael it was, yes?" Will asked the question without realizing that he'd been shaking with the cold. He jogged to the corner stove in which burnt a dying fire and started to throw on the logs in order to give himself a second to stop his teeth chattering. "It is awfully frigid out there. Tell me, though, what take have you on this? Have you recovered any memory or any idea at all of the reason that we are all here in this place?"
Standing up before he resurging stove, warming his hands and bare arms, Will went on, "I know it is rather soon to ask that, but I am anxious to hear any new--" Will noticed that his nose had begun to bleed. Snuffling, he made his way to the sink so as not to bleed on anything important. Holding a handy napkin to his nostrils, he went on to say, "I would, that is, be anxious to hear any new insights you have. This situation... It all worries me. And I do not think it is merely because of our memory loss. What think you?"

(OOC: I'm going to continue copying Meepy's posts in here so this thread remains current, for whenever he decides to come on this board. Yes, I know he's registered, but he's not posting here yet.) Meepy | "It's perfect!" Said Lily who couldn't help but say it out loud. "From now on, this will be the start of a beautiful beginning!" And then reality hit her and she looked around at the beds. "Sigh...but first things first..."
And so she began to work: shifting and folding the sheets into a nice clean spreading, neatly place the blankets on top, fluffing the pillows, Testing the pillow's effectiveness in getting you to sleep by resting on it for 5 minutes (most important and funnest task for her)
"Ahhh...yep! I'd give it a A-...the minus because I'm not sleeping in his bed. Hee, now to call it a day and help cook dinner." She tried to roll over to the side but she felt a rather painful bump when she tried to slide over. "Ow! what the..."
She leapt out the bed and stared. In front of her was a very obvious bump right in the middle of the bed. She reached up to it and touched it with a finger; it was warm, hard to touch, it seemed to squirm. The last part made her gasp and jump away.
"Whoa what the...did that little lump just move alluvasudden???"
It squirmed a little bit more, then fell still again.
"Eww..." She shuddered. For all she know, it could be some kind of....yucky thing that she didn't wanna think about.
You think Kael would be proud to see you like this? said a very familier voice. And it was right, she shouldn't be scared because of...this thing! She shouldn't be afraid to show some guts!
"Yea! YEA! Alright you little whatever you are, prepare yourself for a good round of smacking!"
And at once, Lily pulled off the sheets.
-----------------------------
"I'm back." Jynx called to whoever was in the kitchen. She was carrying a large basket filled with several fish and another basket full of spices in the other. She found herself facing a well groomed table with Kael still handling the wares, and of course she was a bit shocked to see a cold and wet Will standing thankfully in front of the stove.
"Good heavens! Will, I'm so sorry, I should've gave you some clothing before you went. That was very unprofessional of me, I don't think I'll be able to forgive myself for this." Instinctivly, she pulled off her own quilted coat and set it over the human's shoulder. Then she began to feel his forehead in case he may have a fever but stopped as she saw the napkin up his nose, the blood trailing from the absorbent material.
"Oh darn it. I am truly sorry for this, I should've put more thought into this before I opened my mouth." She set down the fish and spices on a table and took Will's hand. "Come with me, I have a few herbs that could help that kind of problem." Jynx looked apologetically at Kael. "Sorry to leave you with more work Kael, but is it okay if you prepare the food for me. It's very easy, you just season the fish and place it on the stove, nothing else needed. Call me if you ever need help alright?" Then back to Will, leading him by the hand towards the room where she once came from. "Alright Mr. Will, come with me, It won't take up more then a moment of your time, I promise." |

Though he knew William couldn't see his face, Kael grimaced apologetically, wishing he had something to offer the man to warm him. But the fire should do that as quickly as anything I could give . . . I think he would take greater comfort in me having some encouragement to offer. If I only had any . . .
Kael shook his head regretfully. "I'm afraid I still remember nothing. The closest thing I have to a memory is the feeling that Miss Lily and I must've had something to do with each other. Both of us feel quite strongly that we should know each other, and that's something. But I'm sorry, I can't bring to mind any concrete memories, and still less anything that might give a clue as to why we're here. I, too, am worried . . . but we'll all just have to take this one step at a time, and stay alert."
He'd been about to resume whistling, mostly out of fear the oddly nostalgic tune would leave his head, when Jynx returned. He stood patiently by, staring out the dark window as the doctor talked with William. What a lonely affliction we have . . . if we had memories, we could at least take comfort in the things of the past, in fond remembrances of friends and family. But now, we have nothing. Only each other . . .
Startled from his internal reflections, Kael's head snapped up. "Hmm? Oh, of course. No problem, I'll be fine." He looked over the fish and spices as Jynx left with William in tow, trying to summon up something, anything, in his mind . . . Nothing. Eh, well. I didn't really expect to remember anything. He set about looking for a skillet or pan first, to cook the fish in. After going through a few cabinets, he found one; and that same search found a little bit of some sort of cooking oil.
Kael started whistling to himself again as he placed the pan and oil next to the stove. Oh, yum . . . now for my favorite part: gutting the fish. By the time he'd found a suitably sharp paring knife, he realized, Wait. How do I know I hate gutting fish? After a brief pause, Kael shrugged to himself. Doesn't matter. I think I know how to do it, but I'm not looking forward to it, and I can't for the life of me remember where I learned how to do it.
To make the process a bit less unpleasant, he switched from whistling to humming, and then to a softly nonsensical, rhythmic sort of "doooooo deh, barrummm . . ." Though he was quite certain the half-muttered syllables in no way resembled the original words to the song - assuming it was a real song, and that it even had words at all - he found that he rather enjoyed making the bittersweet, deep and rumbling notes that seemed to make up much of the tune that seemed right to him. He didn't remember it so much as forge blindly ahead to the notes that sounded right to him, and they did indeed seem to make a coherent-sounding song. I wish I could remember what it was, or where I heard it.
Before long, he'd finished gutting the fish, and got rid of the innards in a container that was filled with other sorts of trash. I'll have to ask Jynx where to dispose of all that when she returns. But with the inedible parts of the fish removed, they were ready for cooking. Kael put the fish in first, then poured a bit of cooking oil into the pan, so that the spices would stick to the fish as he sprinkled them on. He continued his little tune as he lightly spiced the fish and put them on the hot stove to cook, hoping that it'd bring something to mind if he did it long enough. |

Will had wanted to instill into Kael a measure of caution and drive home the need to suspect the motives of those who had brought them to this place; he was given pause by the nagging insistance of what seemed to be common sense saying that it was hardly likely that suspicion was warranted. There was a great recoiling of his thoughts at the suggestion of that idea, and Will was left wondering just what kind of person he'd been. In any event, I appear to be different now. Perhaps I lost some memory that would convince me of the need to suspect.
He had been given pause enough that Jynx returned to find him before the stove. Listening to her rebukes of herself--the "professional" in "unprofessional" struck a chord in him--Will took the first silent moment to reply, "Madam, it was a volunteer task and the least that I could do. I would throw myself once... um." By now Jynx had him by the hand and was leading him off to who-knows-where--Will followed without even a pretense at resistance.
"Ah, you know--it isn't quite so bad as... bad as that. Just a little to-do with the woodpile. No harm. And the snow, yes. Did get a little wet. But I, ah... I don't suppose my clothes are somewhere up ahead?"

"Ummm...Okay what do i do now?" Lily said to herself more then to anyone else. All her previous emotions vanished in a blink of an eye, replaced by sheer fascination and confusion at what layed before the white mage.
She was pretty sure that there was a sleeping Oglop on the bed, but it was a bit more larger then some of the others she has always seen. What made this completely diffrent was the fact that it was wearing a pirate hat. "Hmmm...well this is something you don't see everyday. it doesn't look dangerous...nor does it look like it anything that can really be scary. It does kind of have a familier-ness to it...this requires more investigation!"
The little nezumi continued to poke at it...
----------------------------------
"Little or not Mr. Will, It is my responsibility to care for my patients, whatever the costs." Jynx replied. "Going out there in the cold could give you a...well...a cold. Even a mild one can turn very serious if the correct procedures were not made." She proceded to lead him down a hallway, and made her way to the door at the very end of the hall.
Inside was a room completely painted in white, containing a large rectangular table placed squarly in the middle. Candles, and cabinets line the sides of the walls, leaving only enough room to one person at a time to walk around. Several of the cabinets were already open, revealing many medical instruments and medicines, especially herbs. Jynx went towards one of the closed cabinets and removed the lock on it. "Alright, would you be so kind as to sit on the table? This will only take a second."
She let her hands roam around the varieties of bottles and instruments, unknowingly saying what she was looking at out loud. "Lets see...scalpels, cutting knives, leeches, maggots, a saw..." Then she caught her eyes on some of the syringes in the back. The cat pondered on them for a while.
"Hmm...say Mr. Will, I don't suppose you can remember when was the last time you had your last cold/flu shot do you?"
LancerZero
But unfortunately, nothing came to mind. Blank. Totally blank. Oh well . . . I've only been awake for - what? Ten, fifteen minutes? Something like that. With the fish seasoned and cooking, there wasn't much for him to do but think . . . and wonder if Lily was doing alright. Uh-oh, what if she tripped and hit her head or something? I don't think it should take this long to make three small beds . . . I better check on her.
He couldn't just leave the fish, either, unless she didn't answer him. So he checked the fish over one more time, then walked over to where the kitchen became the hallway, and yelled down it, "Lily, are you okay back there? Need any help?"

"A... cold and flu shot?" Will smiled at the doctor as he hauled himself up on the table. He could remember developing in his youth a predilection for sitting on tables instead of chairs; he couldn't for the life of him remember anything like a cold and flu shot.
"I fear that I cannot remember any such thing. You understand, I am sure, that this may be due to my condition. I am in your hands, madame! Do with me as you see fit, I entreat you."
Saws and maggots! Gods above, but I'd take magic any day. Doesn't do much for a sour stomach, though. Hm. I wonder how I know that. I don't remember ever seeing a white mage. Then again, I don't even remember what color my eyes are.

It was then that Lily heard Kael's voice, and she lifted her head towards the hallway. "Don't worry Kael, I'm fine! I'll be out as soon as..EEK!" It was too late. She turned back to the strange Oglop and was frightened to see that it was already stirring itself awake.
Oh me and my big fat mouth! Now look what you did, your waking it up! Man, well at least you know you don't have what it takes to become a ninja, huh? Now what am I gonna do? Then she found that she was staring at him, just as it was now staring at her. Neither one of them made a move, not daring to, waiting for the other to do something.
---------------------------------------
"I am glad to hear that from you Will!" Chirped Jynx, who so happened to be inserting a needle into a bottle of blue-tinted liquid. "I had just decided to use the vaccination process as a matter of good health, you can never be too careful. It's so good to hear that you aren't paranoid about something like this, it's quite tough to pin a shaking arm ya know?"
She removed the needle and placed the bottle back to it's orignal place. Now carrying a syringe, another bottle containing dark-green yet thick liquid, and a few gauze pads mixed with alcohol. She began to hold Will's right arm up and applied the gauze pads to the shoulder. "Now I don't know if you know how this feels or have just forgotten it, but you will feel a slight sting. Just relax, I promise this is for the best."
---------------------------------------
The prey was near, he knew it now. He could smell the distinct aroma of the usual spiced fish from afar and was practically dragged over near the kitchen. He kept his back against the wall behind it however, wanting to avoid detection at all costs. He let his head poke out and scan the kitchen; yes, it was the same fish his prey usually cooks. Watching his prey actually walk down towards the hall, calling out to someone. Strange, what is she yelling about? Damning his lack of hearing, he poked his head back behind the walls, knowing that the prey will come back soon to cook the fish further. He waited and grinned.
LancerZero
That's a cry for help if ever I heard one! Blood pumping, he rushed down the hallway and back into the bedroom, only to find- "Wha . . .?" He scanned the rest of the room carefully before returning his attention to the bed where the girl's attention seemed to be centered. "Hey, Lily . . . what's the matter? Is anything wrong? It sounded like something startled you pretty badly."
Wilson
Making a slight sniffing nose, Will held his arm carefully cocked for the doctor's ministrations. "Go ahead, madame! I am not afraid." With a tiny laugh, Will went on slightly more quietly, "Why would I be afraid? There is nothing to fear."
Meepy
"Ah Kael!" Lily cried out just as soon he entered. "Oh ot..it was nothing really, I just saw a..." She stopped herself, now thinking of the consequences her next action may face. Oh no, what if Kael laughs at me for being scared of a oglop!? He'll think I'm just a poor scaredy mouse, and nobody likes that. Think think think!...AH! I got it!
"No wait, I just accidently pricked myself with a pin that was hidden in the bed sheets. Don't you just hate it when that happens?" She mentally congratulated herself, sure that she covered herself nicely. Then a aromatic scent caught her unawaraes and she instantly looked across the hallway and towards the kitchen. "Heeey that's beggining to smell nice, does that mean it's almost done?"
----------------------------------
"Annnnnnnnnd....there! Thank you for being so enthusiastic Mr. Will. As soon as we're done with dinner, I'll reward you with a lollipop." The cat laughed then bandaged the arm. Now she began to take out a bottle of green paste and stuck her finger in it.
"Alright, now here comes the creepy part. I'm gonna rub a little of this herb paste right under your nose so you could thoroughly smell it. It should be able to help stop the bleeding and the pain, but there's another catch to it..." Jynx held up the bottle to him. "It also requires me to stick it on your wounds on your body and eh...also inside your nose. I can do the scratches you got, but it's up to you if you want to place some of this inside your nose as well. I can do it to, but well..." She showed him her paws, and also her claws. "I don't wanna make any mistakes, heh. If you want me to do it, I promise I'll be careful. Well?"
LancerZero
"That scream was from a pinprick?" Kael raised one of his eyebrows at the girl's explanation, and craned his neck for a closer look at her hands. I don't see anything, but that means little. "Oy, that must've been a huge pin . . . are you bleeding? Do you need any - oh, yes, you're right. It should be almost done. But it's nothing that can't wait a moment, if you're hurt."
