Iranians have captured 15 UK sailors . . . what the hell? Things just keep escalating . . . I don't think I like where this is headed, especially with the hardline stances both Bush and the Iranian president are taking. What do you guys see in all this? Do any of you think another war may be looming for the US and any of her allies unfortunate enough to follow her - or will it probably just fizzle out before it can erupt into an open conflict? Because if it does . . . just because their names sound similar doesn't mean the Iranian military would be as much of a pushover as the Iraqi military was. (and that's not to mention the disaster AFTER the war that continues today) Of particular interest is their Shafaq aircraft, which looks like a mini trainer version of the F-22 or F-35 - and their standard rifle, which certainly looks nice, if nothing else. Oh, and then there's also the fact that attacking them would be wrong. But then, perhaps I'm overreacting to the rhetoric spewing from both sides.

A rifle with a bipod, but with a pistol grip and no foregrip?
I'm thinking that Iran wouldn't dare start a "real" war if they didn't have at least some kind of nuclear capability. Never mind the fact that it's practically impossible for them to aspire to the capacity of a nation such as the U.S. or Russia without someone knowing about it--they're just almost as fixated as North Korea was about nuclear weapons, and look how North Korea's come around.
In short, I predict it'll fizzle.

It's a bullpup configuration, which places the trigger group in front of the magazine and breech. It's supposed to result in more easily controllable recoil, and an easier to control weapon in close quarters.
Interesting to note is - according to Wikipedia - Iran hasn't started a war in the last 300 years. I agree, I don't think they'd fire the first shot unless they felt they had the advantage - and even then perhaps not. But I don't think they're going to stand down and accept the dismantling of what they see as their key to a prosperous future - whether it makes any sense for them to think so or not.

Hm. With most bullpup designs I'd seen, there was still a forestock or grip--look at the Steyr AUG or the FAMAS or the SA80. I think the P90 submachine gun is designed like that rifle, though, without any kind of grip up near the front.
Where's Eud or Gunny when you need them?

Ah, good point - kinda silly to mount a bipod rather than a forestock or grip. That might not be a very good representative picture, though . . . and I'm sure Eud and Gunny will be here before too long, especially when they hear there's some kind of discussion involving the military. =P

I'll say this, the rifle looks weird. From what I can tell, the opperator would either hold the front of the trigger guard, or instead of having a traditional fore-grip the thing has an. . . aft-grip located immediately behind the pistol grip. See: www.strategypage.com/uploads/Khaybar_kh2002.jpgI'd also like to point out that the rifle fires the same 5.56x45mm ammo our M-16 family does, which to my knowledge has at least as much trouble penetrating our body-armor as 7.62x39mm (I'm pretty sure it won't even go through our helmets; wrench yer neck good, though.) lol'd 'cause the Iranians named their rifle after the US Marines' traditional combat knife! Edit: Apparently those guys don't like hot linking. You'll need to copy/paste into your address bar.

They released the persons, finally. (I noticed that, too - "khaybar", lol)
Something interesting, though . . . the HMS Cornwall, at more than a hundred feet longer than a USN Oliver Hazard Perry-class frigate, is closer in length to a Ticonderoga class missile cruiser. =P No wonder the Brits use those ships as command vessels! XD

Looks like a cheap copy of the FAMAS or QBZ95 w/ AR15 reciever. Do not want. Eude: I am pretty sure the 5.56 NATO round is pretty apt to piercing body armor, considering its small caliber and high muzzle velocity (which can be upto 3000 ft/s) The M43 soviet service cartrage probably cannot though, as that only ranges about 2400 ft/s, and is a much larger diameter bullet. EDIT: Here is the land of ugly copied rifles, bad website layouts, and broken english www.diomil.ir/en/aig.aspx
