There's a deadline? And hey, you don't have to be a master prankster to enjoy playing tricks - even if they're all completely silly, like mine are. =P My older sister, now, she's another story . . . she loves playing tricks on people! Especially on my little sister, who is horribly gullible and easily angered; two facets of her personality that make her a fun target! XD We had to find a new home for her cat one time about six years ago, and invited the mom and dad of a potential home over to our house. Before they got there, my older sister (I'll call her "B") and I got my younger sister ("R") convinced this family wanted a new cat because their kids were horrible and had killed the last one my putting him in the washing machine! Errr . . . I know it sounds cruel, but we had a good time making her kitty's "Mrrrrff!" sound while making slow spinning motions with our hands and heads, like we were in a washing machine. She was so freaked out - it was funny for a bit, but I'm such a wuss that I broke down and told her we were kidding. Which doesn't mean B and I don't still get a kick out of going "Mrrrff!" to R! XD And then there's the pranks she likes to play at work, and that her co-workers play on her. And at her old work! XD Before we moved, on her last day there, they filled her car TO THE CEILING with shredded paper, and moved it somewhere else in the parking lot! And for her recently passed birthday, at her new work they used car-friendly temporary paint to mark all over her windows (Mike is a GAWD, Wayne on board, B-day girl, etc) and did some other stuff that I totally forgot. In retaliation, she went to the guy that organized the job on her, and put toothpaste under the door handles of his pickup and marked a message on his windshield with lipstick. Instead of getting mad, though, when he reached to open the door and got a handfull of toothpaste instead, he just about died laughing and called out to her "Respect!", like, "Ya got me!" I wouldn't want it done to me, but I think she works with some of the most awesome people. =P

Oh geez, telling a girl that her cat is basically incredibly likely to get tortured and killed isn't very funny at all

What made it funny was the sheer absurdity of the idea of my older sister and I even considering giving an animal of any kind to such a family. We love all our animals, and the painful few times we've had to find another home for one we've always made sure the family was well-suited. I was very surprised that she believed us at all; we joke each other all the time, and to this day I can't comprehend what might've led her to think we even might have been serious.

I've never done anything to that scale, or even seen anything done to that scale outside of TV. Although this morning my mum wanted me to try and convince my dad that someone from the council was at the door. It failed spectularly, and I tried to get my own joke in by then trying to get him to believe Mum was in the bathroom when he wanted to go in there. This got ruined when my mum heard this from downstairs and shouted "I'm in the kitchen!" >.<
"Thanks very much Mum!"
A friend of mine on AIM also got me when he got me thinking he thought that April Fools was on the second of April, not the first.

A lot of kids are gullible, though (in fact, I'd say most kids under 10 can be talked into believing almost anything, as long as the source is someone they trust who isn't letting on that they're joking). I assume you were a kid or at least a young teenager yourself when you did this so it isn't a judgement on you. It's just kind of a nasty thing to tell someone, even as a joke. I get a lot of comments about killing and eating my pets (a whole lot more than you'd think), and it's always hurtful and uncomfortable even though it's obviously meant in jest.

First off, I apologize if I offended you; I know if I got a lot of comments like that, I'd probably be a bit put-off by such a story, too. I love all our beasties and would take personal offense to the idea of someone wanting to cause them harm.
I think I was a sophomore or freshman in high school at the time, so yeah, I was a young teenager. A very different person, too, but that's another story. R has always had a violent temper - when I was about seven years old (give or take a couple years), she broke a ceramic bowl over my head because I ate the last M&M. Fortunately none of the pieces sliced my head open, but I still remember it: B had a friend over, and I had just gone back into the living room to eat some Cheerios and watch TV, laying down on my belly to do so, when she came up behind me and threw the thing down on my head as hard as she could. She also knocked one of my loose teeth out by hitting the back of my head with a pair of my mom's blue jeans, chipped one of my front teeth by throwing a hardcover book at me, and scratched B's hand with her fingernails (leaving scars still visible today), among other things. (and it's really weird that we never got along as kids, because we generally get along quite well now)
Not that I'm trying to excuse joking about that sort of thing, because I'm not; I just wanted to kinda make clear that it's been something of a back-and-forth game between us all. R ruins an event or special day by throwing a tantrum or being a stick in the mud, and B and I respond by joking her. In this case, the only reason B and I said such a horrible thing was that we didn't think she'd believe it for a second, in spite of how gullible she was/is. Thinking back on it, we were talking to her on the phone, so she couldn't see our expressions. But as we talked and it became apparent that she DID believe us (and was genuinely upset, naturally), I told her we were just messing around, that they were a very nice family whose beloved pet cat had recently died of natural causes (which was, in fact, the case). I don't know if it was karma or what, but before the family left with him, he was accidentally dropped on my right hand, rear claws first. The three scars are still visible, but I wasn't mad then, and I don't hold it against the critter. It was a natural reaction to being dropped.

I would have used the "Uhh, you're going to be grandparents" thing if my gf and I were further along in our relationship... XD

Since I'm removing that announcement now, I felt I ought to put it in the appropriate place. =P
