THREAD BUMP GET! I'm reviving this, so I can post this. It's not a refined sketch, as I purposefully haven't shaded it in, but I wanted to give folks a little preview on something I'm working on, or hope to work in the future. (If you don't recognize who it is, then you really don't know me very well. X3)

[This is In Re. your last Declan picture, so's ya know. I'll edit a bit for the new Smaug pic.]
In addition to the shading, you might try playing with varying the line weight to further give your picture depth.
Also, with regards to the shading you've done: I can't really tell where the primary light source is relative to the subject because of how even/regular the shading is. While the shadows do give a better sense of a three dimensional figure they don't really play naturally.
What (based on his eyes and the shadows that are visible) it looks like is that he is being lit from below and directly in front as well as directly above, but with only one shade/tone for the shadows. If you look at a person and set them up like that you'd see two sets of shadows, one from each light source. In some places they would overlap and be darker, in some places their body would be reflecting light from both sources, and you'd also have parts of their body which are lit by one and thrown into shadow by the other.
Your art is showing a lot of improvement, so I apologize if this seems overly critical but I was trying to be specific. Please keep up the good work!
------------------- In Re: Smaug
Very good, overall! Very clean.
The perspective on the farther horn is a little. . . wonky. (Looks kinda like it's coming right out of the top.) An once again I'd recommend playing with line weight a bit, specifically on the cheek-frill-things (using a lighter/thinner line to show that the membrane is thinner or finer than the spars supporting it and the rest of his skin.)
[Oh, and more Declan plz!]

Whoops, completely overlooked this, sowwy Deccy poo.
Gotta say, Eud-mew took the words right out of my mouth, and speaking of mouths, I'd like to add that...well actually it depends on artist to artist, but most prefer to leave a line visible in the mouth area to show that the character has lips. If that was mouth was intended however then screw this comment with a broom stick! =D
All in all, You have done well and I must say you really improved on correcting your 'straight ruler line' syndrome. I believe you are taking good steps towards becoming a accomplished artist Declan ^^
