So a little while ago I was playing FF9 in mount Gulug. I was in battle the chips were down Vivi was my last one alive and I was fighting some lich enemy that had really good black magic like firaga, doom, and some devil candle thing. I'd already killed one so it was a one on one battle between two black mages. I can't use potions because it will just delay the inevitable and I can't revive anyone because they'd get blasted before I could heal them, they aren't resistant to fire like Vivi. I try to acomplish healing myself and hurting him at the same time by using drain and in one move I manage to heal my enemy and kill myself at the same time. I was left going wtf. Then I realized he was undead so i was taking his unlife making him more undead and me well dead.
So does anyone else have any more wonderfully bad moments like this.

First time I attempted to attack Ozma. BIIIG mistake. I didn't know about the Friendly Monsters thing, and hadn't prepared at ALL (i.e. no protecting armour and stuff) so I couldn't attack Ozma, and within 3-4 attacks I was dead.
But then no! Eiko's Phoenix has to keep resurrecting us!! I was almost yelling "STOP BRING US BACK TO LIFE!!!" and finally he stopped and I got Game Over xDD
Then I did research and it was an epic facepalm moment.

Trying to make it through the game without picking up Quina. I strongly dislike the thing, other than the interesting mechanic of blue magic, and thought I was up for the challenge. Damn, was I wrong; I barely made it through Gizamaluke's alive, and had extreme difficulty from then on. Even when I was finally forced to accept the damned creature with open arms, it was still at a level much lower than the party, and had no spells, making it less than useless. I ended up starting a new game after leaving that one alone for months

It's a trick to make you realise that you really do love Quina

when i was at Oelivert , i buyed alot of spinning wheels for amarant to defeat the boss , but i spended all my money on it. when was at Esto Gaza i had no money left. i could not make it through Mount Gulug, because i had no potions or phoenix down or anything like that. and i was using 1 save slot.
so... i had to play the game all over again.
stupid me...

Moral of the story: Never waste gil on Amarant's pinwheels. I never use Throw so that isn't a problem for me... My biggest mistake? Well, I can't be the only one who did this... -Gizamaluke's Grotto- Moogle: Don't go outside! It's dangerous kupo! Me: (Heh, silly moogle. He doesn't know the meaning of the word dangerous...) *Gets ass handed to me by Grand Dragon* Me: That moogle wasn't kidding...

Haha ;D I totally went out on that part too xD Got pwned badly My worst FF9 mistake was: Having melee characters on Ozma fight, gotten killed in 1,2,3. Then I soloed Ozma later with Freya ;D (not a joke! I can tell you how to do it btw! XD)

Actually managed to hold my own against the grand dragons; got him down to about 3/4-1/2 health before my luck ran out. This was before I knew the lvl-5 death trick, of course!

Level 1 Ozma is harder than Freya solo Ozma...still a solo Freya game might be a fun challenge to try when I need a new game to play.
Allen, were you using the Limit Glove trick with Quina or was this later in the game? I don't see how you can nearly kill a Grand Dragon with that level party any other way...

On the Contrary Robshi. The reason the put the vines there to the Popo Heights was in fact a cheat. If you equip your party with Coral rings, and if quina has limit glove you will be rolling in EXP. I did this once before I got to Burmecia. Freya was level 47, and everybody else was a little less. My worst mistake was thinking that overleveling my character was going to let me utterly destroy beatrix... I was dealing out heavy damage (1000-2000 a swing), and her shocks only did about 400-600. My HP per char was an avg of 4000-5000. As I hit beatrix a third time she used stock break and reduced all of my Hps to zero. I threw the controller against the screen. I was younger too..... It doesn't work Beatrix could beat Necron it seems....

Uh...no, that's just a plotline event. Beatrix will always reduce your HP to 1 with Stock Break and end the battle in Burmecia, it won't matter even if you're level 99 and her Shock did 0 damage to you thanks to insane amounts of defence. I just want to see a vid where your party's HP is already at 1 when she uses Stock Break against you, that way it does absolutely nothing.Of course, the best game break was the infamous video of Beatrix vs. Beatrix in Burmecia on Disc 1 thanks to someone using a Gameshark...

If your still on disc one at this point you'll also need a coral ring with Limit glove, other wise it's damn near impossible without it.

Yes, I know. I just referred to that as the "Limit Glove Trick". You can also do one-shot-kills with it against all the early bosses of FF9.

I did this 6 years ago, I was quite young. Back then I thought I could discover a secret plot line by strategizing ways to avoid stock break, and even avoid Ultima by Kuja. Haha, thats why it was so embarassing. There was no way, but I attempted to make a way. That's why I enjoy the Elderscrolls, Fable, and Fallout Series. It gives me too much freedom to decide how I want things to go, Instead of forcing me to realize the cold hard truth. Don't get me wrong, my heart is still with Square Enix.

Don't get yourself down, Ryuu, I'm more or less the same ^^ Even though I know there's no way you can defeat Beatrix, I still try and enforce as much damage as possible out of sheer pride at my team. It always shames me when we get defeated (but then we wouldn't have the epicest FMV ever - end of Disc One! *dances*)
Big difference in personality between Freya and me: When Beatrix offers to help, Freya's like "it's for the good of the nation and stuff, and I forgive you for killing all those peeps, you know?" whereas I'd be like, "HELL NO B*TCH YOU PROBABLY KILLED MY SMEXY FRATWEE" xD I take grudges easier than Freya, it seems.

Melzi, you do realise you can have Freya exact her revenge by having her attack Beatrix instead of the Bandersnatches don't you? You'd likely get a Game Over from being mauled by Bandersnatches, but you could do it...

True, but at that point I decided to channel my anger towards Queen Brahne's evil minions. *evil laughter*
