I've decided to replay FFIX on the PS3, I must say, while the lag in the PS2 and PSX/1 was barely perceptible, the processing power seems to make the game tons faster and more responsive, I'm having loads of fun playing in HD... Ah the Memories...
EDIT: Is it bad I feel bad for stealing grandma's life savings of 9 gil?

Her house is gonna get destroyed soon, so she can just reap the rewards of the insurance =D
I didn't know the PS3 was able to play PS1 games, all the people I spoke to about it said it was impossible :S

First off, I'd like to point out that there is no lag on the PS2 in FF9.
Second, in response to Mel's post, that's kinda half-true. It only plays a small handful of PS1 games, and only certain ones even work properly {and before anyone "calls BS" on this info, it was determined by Sony representatives, and some friends of mine who blew money on PS3s were able to verify this as well}.

Hi sorry its been a while, been away getting merry with ale, mead and scoffing cakes!
I cant belive the coincidence here, i only decided last week that i was going to try and play a PS1 game on my PS3. i wasnt hopeful that it'll work as i heard the same info as freyarule heard, but hey im a curious little fellow and if my PS3 exploded at leasts its still got warrenty.
anyway lo and behold! it worked and the first game i tried was ffVI, needless to say i coundt really notice any difference to the graffics even wita HDMI cable but the little funky built in memory card is a godsend! no more trying to find a shop who sell ps1 memory cards (offical ones BTW, i am a snop and hate 3rd company knock off crud)
anyway after finding out PS1 games now work i rushed over to my g/f's place and wrestled my copy of FFIX from her clutches that i loaned to her. Happy times people! Happy times...

Sadly I seem to get some system lag sometimes, but I think it may be related to my discs just a little. I decided to restart after a many-day search for a memory card, and I'm currently in the EVIL FOREST! I noticed, sometimes, I get stuck watching people cast spells for nearly two, three minutes, before it picks up. Sometimes it does it for cinematics, as well. I finally escaped the evil forest... only to have terrible lag the first time the World Map loaded - so much, I got impatient and turned it off. What do you guys think? And why is it telling me I spelled 'cinematic' wrong?

well I restarted the game a few weeks ago I'm on disk 4 now
I don't have a ps3 so I'm ps2ing it. Things are great, but it doesn't look right on big televisions.
Faegassr: The stuff your going through is probably the discs. Stuff like that tends to happen when the disc has deteriorated.

Try it on a PS2/PS1 and see if it improves ^^
I always played it on a PS1, but when I got a PS2 the PS1 lay forgotten =[ I remember the first game I trialled on the PS2 was FFIX =D I was in Ipsen's Castle, I believe. I remember thinking "coooool!"

Examining my discs, only the first one seems to have awkward signs of damage / aging. I'm hoping these effects only persisted onto the first. =( Attempts at cleaning did not have the desired results.

I seriously... need to post here more often. xD
I restarted FFIX the other week too! On my old save, I was stuck in Crystal World and was only like level 30 or something, and as I didn't remember any of the story either, I thought it would be a good time to restart...
I'm up to Ipsen's castle now, and currently have the same levels that I did on my other save. And I've actually bothered to learn most of the abilities for each character as well... And none of my characters are left trailing behind 10 levels! I feel so proud of myself... xD I was such a pathetic FF player back when I was 12...
