I've still got three hours to go, but the fondue makes the time go quickly.

My resolutions for this year would be....
1. Learn to draw better. 2. Humiliate Robshi and Mel and conquer Roer3 once and for all!!! 3. Lose a bit of weight =P 4. Get myself back together. 5. Learn to look at the computer screen while i type. =P

Happy new year guys!
I haven't made a resolution, I'd only break it. Although like Meeps, I hope to lose a bit of weight and humilate him and Mel and take over the world!

My resolutions include losing weight, get good exam results, actually do art on DA for a change (as in, do that request that has been sitting on my journal for the past half-year >_< )

Why on earth do people go for the poorly tacked on "Lose weight" resolution, when the sad shocking truth is that they'll simply break it by overindulging themselves within a couple of weeks?

Some people do manage to succeed while other's fail. You never know =P, plus the psychological effect of having such a resolution does increase the probability of succeeding. Sorta like a promise but more 'meh'. ^^

My overall gripe with New Year's Resolutions, and the primary reason I don't make any myself, is that they lack substance. To me, they're nothing more than a collection of cheesy promises that people make outside of their character, only to fail shortly after a while (folks who claim that they'll lose weight are particularly guilty of this - They'll spend at least a week or two hitting the gym and trying to eat healthily before gorging on pizza and giving up their goal altogether, sinking to the "teehee, I've been naughty" stage).
I don't try to make any resolutions unless they're realistic goals that I can stick to. To me, a New Year's resolution should be a target that people genuinely feel comfortable about, and one that sticks with their lifestyle and personality, rather than a lame attempt at "trying to be good".
(Sorry to sound so cynical, but I'd like to throw in my $0.02 about the matter.)

Allow me to throw in my perception on the concept of 'New Year's Resolutions' too, for whatever it's worth. Hopefully I can create a balance in this thread.
Ah yes, the old 'lose the weight' resolution. So many paradies and comedies based on this, 90% of them always end up in failure to hold up such a promise. But then again we shouldn't make it such a stereotype, believing that everyone makes this promise and fails. Sure we always about hear about them ALOT, but, and this is a big butt, there are very some of us who probably rarely hear such success on this resolution. (I know I haven't XD)
If it's the case of seeing someone fail at it, screw 'em. It's their problem and lack of conviction for not upholding their promises.
But I agree, a resolution would succeed even more if it was was made to fit their persona and lifestyle. I didn't keep my weight loss resolution 2 years ago, but last year I made one and I lost around 2-3 pounds per month just by walking the neighborhood every so often. Yea yea I know, big stinkin whoop. But hey progress is progress...I hope. I haven't thought about what other things I can do to keep up with the current resolution yet...maybe drink more water =P...but I can still walk. ^^
Also my art has been getting better. An improvement from last year, something I'm particularly proud of yet still ashamed of. Ironic isn't it?
Basically just stick to those promises, or just make promises you know you can keep. Sorry If I sound over optimistic, buuuut like I said earlier gotta make a balance. Can't fall to doomsday just yet =P

Why on earth do people go for the poorly tacked on "Lose weight" resolution, when the sad shocking truth is that they'll simply break it by overindulging themselves within a couple of weeks? Because I'm trying to not be fat. And it's just a coincidence that other people want to not be fat as well.

Yeah, many people have a bit too much turkey and chocolate at Christmas, and then realise they've put on a bit too much weight. Of course they're going to say "I will lose weight!" come new years.
I can lose weight effectively, I just need to master the art of keeping it off...
