I was pulling up Wikipedia today to look up something, but was greatly intrigued by the article featured on the home page: an enlightenement age robot hoax, which was very elaborate and took place over the course of decades. While the thing wasn't a real robot, keeping the illusion successful, in my opinion, was still a work of genius. In fact, though I don't normally side with deception, in this case I feel a great deal of admiration for the perpetrators of this grandiose prank upon the celebrities of old. And the secret was kept for some eighty years! Amazing . . . Yeah, I know there may not be much to talk about on this particular subject, but I'm sure there are related subjects, other grand pranks and illusions that have somehow persisted.

Ah, the Mechanical Turk. I have no idea how I know what that thing is--probably from slashdot.
That reminds me that there was a recent article on /. about something related to this, but I can't for the life of me remember what it is or was. Oh well.
