I have just come back after spending a fantastic evening enjoying a satisfying three course meal at Brewster's Fayre and watching this movie, and I am in awe. In my opinion, this is a masterpiece of powerful atmosphere and heart-pounding action, and frankly, Michael Bay's finest two hours. Beautiful, immersive and utterly FUN movie!
Anyone else watched it yet?

CAN YOU CONFIRM WEATHER OR NOT THEY SAID "DO A BARREL ROLL"? It was confirmed long ago that they wouldn't be using it. Besides, who the heck would Optimus be telling to do a barrel roll? Anyway, as for me, I saw it and it was pretty good--I just wish they'd focused more on the TRANSFORMERS. Seriously, way too much time is spent focusing on the human characters no one really cares about. We want to see the TRANSFORMERS when we pay 10 freakin' bucks see the TRANSFORMERS movie. Other than that, I'd say it was worth the money. In other news, the newest VG Cats strip is Transformers-related, basically describing in comic form Scott Ramsoomair's disappointment. www.vgcats.com/comics/?strip_id=241

Whilst I agree that the Transformers themselves did not gain enough character development as the humans did, it is still a Transformers movie as far as plot structure goes; It is a tale of two robot races at war with one another, trying to find an ancient relic on our before the other one does. On the surface, it may sound like a simplistic and predictable plot idea that would fit nicely with some other Sci-Fi movie, but when you look at it closely, it most certainly feels like a Transformers movie - you can almost feel the empathy for the Autobots, and the fear that's been generated by the Decepticons. It's a feeling that's almost familiar with the original G1 series.
As far as the robots themselves are concerned, from the first few scenes when Blackout levels the U.S. military base in Qatar, to the final moments with Prime overlooking the city from the top of a hill, they still felt like Transformers characters on their own accord rather than side-characters. Even if Prime, Bumblebee, Frenzy and Megatron were the only ones who had screentime than the other robots, those four were more than enough to demonstrate the fact that, at the end of the day, the movie was about the Transformers themselves.
Unfortunately, this movie is not an all-out rollercoaster action-fest full of suspense and hot robot-on-robot action as the trailers demonstrated. It's not G1 remade into the modern era. It is, in fact, a light-hearted movie, about a young man in his prime with issues, bonding with a car that can transform and getting caught in the crossfire between two warring alien factions, only to come out on top, beat the bad guy, and win the girl. A simple, yet fun, storyline.
Even after all that, it's not entirely hearts and roses at the end, as the closing credits makes hints that the war is far from over, leaving room for a sequel in the making. Perhaps then, we could see more character development on the robot's side than the humans. We'll see.
